‘Spring Start’ Race Meeting, Silverstone, 20-21 April. Entries now Open!

The VSCC is pleased to announce that we are now accepting entries for the ‘Spring Start’ race meeting to be held at Silverstone over the weekend of 20 -21 April 2013.
The traditional season opener for Vintage and Historic racing in the UK, ‘Spring Start’ takes on a new format and writes a new chapter in the history books with a second day added to the meeting that will be the first live televised race meeting in the history of the VSCC (to be broadcast on Motors TV).

Over sixty competitor's enjoyed the New Year Driving Tests at Brooklands yesterday. Results will shortly be available, photographs from the event, by various photographers have been uploaded and can be viewed in 'Event Images'. Go to the 'EVENTS' menu, select New Year Driving Tests, scroll down and you will see 'Images for the New Year Driving Tests' towards the bottom of the page. Click on the first one to enlarge and then you have the choice to click through, or click on the play button to watcha slideshow of the images.

Enthusiasts of Vintage and Historic motoring make their annual pilgrimage to Paris, France next week for the annual Retromobile Show at Port Versailles (Wednesday 6 February-Sunday 10 February).
The Vintage Sports-Car Club are standing at the Bonhams Grand Palais Auction on Thursday 7 February, so if you are in town, please do come and say hello. The stand will be selling memberships so if you are with a friend who has ‘always been intending to join up’ bring them along to save the £15 joining fee.

Vintage Sports-Car Club members are revered in motoring circles as a hardy bunch; they simply can’t wait to get their Pre-war cars back in action after the winter break (save those hardy souls who have already braved the cold for our overnight Measham Rally in early January) and consequently a superb entry of nearly 70 of the VSCC’s best will be in action this Sunday (3 February 2013) on the hallowed turf at Brooklands Museum in Surrey for the New Year Driving Tests.

Turin Charter officially comes into force
This policy paper highlights the cultural and historical importance of the automobile and advocates the responsible treatment of historical vehicles. These principles and guidelines provide support for owners of historical vehicles in the use, maintenance, repair and restoration of their vehicle. The charter is a landmark document, recognised worldwide. It is FIVA’s reaction to demands from international political organisations such as the EU Parliament and UNESCO, joining the ranks of the Barcelona Charter for the protection of historical ships and the Riga Charter for the protection of historical railways.

Across the USA in a 1904 Oldsmobile

On 13th April 2013, VSCC member Joy Rainey and her Team will leave Oceanside, California to drive coast to coast across the USA, a distance of just under 3000 miles in a 109 year old Oldsmobile to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Joy, better known for piloting faster cars, has successfully participated in speed hill-climbing events throughout the UK for many years, and recently long-distance rallies with her partner and co-driver Trevor Hulks.

Club members and guests are invited to attend the first VSCC Awards Dinner celebrating the achievements of Club Members throughout the 2012 season. As well as a fine meal, you will be able to enjoy the company of Club members, the presentation of the illustrious awards and an exclusive interview with our high-profile guest of honour from the world of Historic Motorsport (details to be confirmed very soon). Motorsport commentator, Ian Titchmarsh, will compere the evening that will be held in the Wheatcroft Suite at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Castle Donington, Derbyshire which is a stones throw from Donington Park Racing Circuit, East Midlands Airport and Junctions 23A/24 of the M1 Motorway.

VSCC Members Invited to Attend Brooklands Film Night, Saturday 2 February 2013

On the eve of the New Year Driving Tests (Saturday 2 February), Brooklands Museum are hosting their traditional Film Night for VSCC Members within the Club house.
Films to be shown will cover the usual broad spectrum including period Brooklands films and other subjects such as aviation. Tickets for the evening include a supper.
The Programme for the evening is as follows; the Bar will be open from 6pm, with dinner at 7.00pm, followed by films, with close at approx 10.30pm. The bar will be open for the duration of the evening until the close of the event.
VSCC Extends Young Member Benefits to under 30s

The Committee of the Vintage Sports-Car Club has voted to increase the age up to which younger members benefit from half price entry fees from 25 to 30 years old with immediate effect.
The VSCC has long encouraged youth into the Pre-war car movement and has offered half price entry fees and membership rates to youngsters for over 15 years. As such, the VSCC boasts young membership levels that are much higher than most Vintage, Classic and Historic Motoring Clubs and has always welcomed a good number of young competitors to its events.
