After a relatively quiet Spring, the Trust's 'Red Wheel' programme has experienced a busy Summer, with successful unveilings in recent weeks at the Leighton Buzzard Light Railway, Dundas Wharf & Aqueduct and Hawkesbury Junction, together with a lower-key award to the Southend Pier & Pier Railway.
The pace of the programme is to be maintained in the coming weeks:

Skerne Bridge, Darlington and 'Locomotion' at Heighington Station, County Durham - Wednesday 27th September

27th September will see the 192nd anniversary of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway and the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham has kindly agreed to unveil 'Red Wheels' at Skerne Bridge (the oldest railway bridge in the world still performing its original purpose) and Heighington (where the S&DR first took delivery of 'Locomotion' from the Stephensons. Celebratory refreshments will be provided by the Aycliffe Village Local History Society.

Eastchurch Aerodrome, Isle of Sheppey - Thurs. 28th September

The Isle of Sheppey can best be described as 'unique' and its aviation heritage 'outstanding'! Our 'Red Wheel' unveiling ceremony will commence at 11:00am and include a short walking tour of the site and visit to the fascinating Aviation Museum ... and a talk by TT Member Liz Walker, a direct descendent of the three Short Brothers, who manufactured aircraft on the site. The unveiling itself - by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant - will take place circa mid-day.

NB: The Aviation Museum is at ME12 4DZ, on the edge of HMP Swaleside.

Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway - Saturday 28th October

The details are still being finalised of the Trust's visit to the RH&DR, which will coincide with the Railway's Autumn Gala in its 90th Birthday year. The TT party will be led by our President, Sir William McAlpine.
