VSCC return to the Lake District this weekend for their annual Pre-war Car Trial

Thursday 07 November 2013

Members will make their annual pilgrimage to the Lake District in their hundreds this weekend for the ever-popular Lakeland Trial, taking place around the Lorton and Keswick area on Saturday 9 November. A full entry of 100 competitors and their ‘bouncers’ will bring their Pre-war cars from all parts of the UK and Northern Ireland, ranging from the humble Austin 7 to the Ford Model A and everything in between to compete, whilst similar numbers of marshals, volunteers and enthusiasts will report to do their part for this much-loved one day event.
Among the entry, reigning champion Louise Bunting returns in her 1919 GN Touring, the oldest car entered, to defend her crown, whilst, fresh from victory at the recent Welsh Trial, Richard Houlgate brings his ever-competitive 1930 Austin 7 and Class 2 Winner Jonathan Miller competes his mighty Chrysler 66 of the same year. As is tradition, competitors will then reconvene at the celebrated Wheatsheaf Inn event headquarters where results will be announced and our band of dedicated volunteer marshals can enjoy a well-earned beverage after a day out in the elements.

There will be 12 challenging hills in total, with the infamous ‘Drumhouse’ section at Honister Slate Mine, the expected highlight for many – it is an undoubted badge of honour within the Club to conquer its long and rocky climb. The Club are also delighted to announce three sections in the Hobcarton Forest, which this year will be marshalled exclusively by Young and Lady Members of the VSCC, highlighting the wonderful variety of members the Club enjoys.

Spectators are welcome to come and watch the action at ‘Drumhouse’ at the Honister Slate Mine from 9.00am to 4.00pm, where there will be plenty of public parking for a small fee to the venue and catering facilities on site whilst there will also be access to the Hobcarton sections this year.
