FROM PHANTOMS AND F1 HELMETS TO MORGANS, MINIS AND MAGIC CITY: CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY FOR MOTOR CAR FANS AT BONHAMS DECEMBER OXFORD SALE

Friday 06 December 2013

Looking for inspiration this Christmas? The Bonhams Oxford Sale of Collectors’ Cars and Automobilia takes place on 9 December at Shipton-on-Cherwell.

Among some of the star lots for sale will be a 1933 Rolls Royce Phantom II Continental with an estimate of £130,000-160,000, and a 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 in Lavender Blue, which is in exceptional condition with fewer than 12,000 miles on the clock. It has an estimate of £60,000-70,000.

For a more modest sum, signed helmets worn by Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel during this year’s Formula 1 Championships are being sold for charity, as well as two worn by James Hunt. A signed Mark Webber race suit is also going under the hammer with an estimate of £1,500-2,000.

In addition, three Ferraris, an impeccably restored 1968 Morgan Plus 8 Sports, and a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster that starred in the US TV series, Magic City, are on offer. These are joined by a collection of Minis owned by Dr Alex Moulton CBE, who invented the gas-based motor car suspension system called Hydragas.

James Knight, Bonhams Group Motoring Director, said: “If you’re at a loose end this weekend and wondering what to get the man – or woman – who has everything for Christmas, come down to the Bonhams Oxford Sale. We're offering 250 lots of automobilia and 75 motor cars that suit all tastes and pockets.

“It is all easy to view, with easy parking and refreshments on-site - and it’s easy to participate. Just come along with ID and proof of address."

The sale takes place from 10am on 9 December at Bonhams in Shipton-on-Cherwell, with a full day of viewing on Sunday 8 December.
