Less than three weeks left to enter the Measham Rally, the first event of 2014!

Monday 16 December 2013

Our 80th Anniversary year kicks off with The Measham Rally on 18/19 January, the Club’s epic overnight Navigational event this time based at The Holiday Inn, Scotch Corner Hotel, Near Darlington. Entries close early in the New Year (2 January) so do not get too distracted by the festivities this Christmas season and ensure to submit your entry for this seminal VSCC event, atop every true Vintage motorsport enthusiast’s ‘must-do’ list.
First run in 1950, it remains one of the most important events in the VSCC calendar. Always organised by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, a finish, let alone an award, on any Measham is a major accomplishment of which any motorsports competitor can be proud. This latest edition will be organised by highly-regard team of Bob Chapman and John Gill, who ran three very memorable Meashams in the early 2000s and they have offered to re-create one of those classic events in North Yorkshire for our 80th Anniversary year. They will be supported by a team of very experienced Rally enthusiasts.

The start will be at the newly re-vamped Scotch Corner Hotel, which has a long association with motorsport as a start and a finish venue, a control on the early round of Britain RACs and a feature on the Monte when en route from Glasgow. A special rate has been negotiated for the Measham just quote “Bob Chapman” or “Measham” when booking (full details can be found in the event Supplementary Regulations).

The event will cover 180 miles in North Yorkshire, all of which will be tarmac, with the exception of in excess of 20 miles on Ministry Of Defence training grounds near Catterick. We have negotiated for this land, which is not normally freely available. The MOD roads are all graded and predominantly smooth, with very few other areas. The entire section will be arrowed to international standard to ensure all cars remain on the correct route and will include the original Catterick Hill Climb course as used by Darlington Motor Club in the 1950s and 60s.

As is the Measham tradition, the instructions for the event will be strictly by map reference only, with the emphasis being on accurate time-keeping. The instructions will not be difficult and will be made even easier for those entered in the Champagne Class for beginners.

Please join us for what will be a very memorable event in our 80th Anniversary year!
