VSCC descend on Derbyshire for a weekend of Vintage motoring

Friday 28 February 2014

The Club’s famed John Harris Trial takes place tomorrow Saturday 1 March, with event headquarters based once again at Ashover Village Hall near Matlock in Derbyshire. In a welcome addition to the weekend, we are delighted to see the return of the traditional ‘Sunday Run’, which will take participants via some of the classic attractions of North Derbyshire, the home of the Peak District National Park and the Industrial Revolution.
As ever, Saturday’s Trial has attracted a maximum entry of over 100 Pre-war cars, who will tackle 14 sections throughout the day, including those located at the ever-popular Butts Quarry venue, where Spectators will be most welcome to come and watch the action which starts at  9.00am (parking, catering and toilet facilities all readily available on site). Following the narrowest of victories at the Exmoor Fringe Trial a fortnight ago, the Club’s first Trial of the season, Louise Bunting will be looking for a repeat win this weekend in her 1919 GN Touring but will she be able to keep Matt Johnston at bay again, as he continues to impress in his 1928 Austin 7 Special, and erstwhile VSCC Trials Champion Don Skelton in his Austin 7? A bumper entry of Standard Short Wheelbase Cars will keep frequent Class Winner Charles Gillett on his toes in the 1923 Bugatti Brescia whilst Paul Jeavons will hope to continue his recent dominant performance in the Long Wheelbase Classes in his 1924 Vauxhall 30-98. All will be revealed back at Ashover on Saturday afternoon where competitors will gather to hear the day’s results.

This year, Club Member John Higgs organises the ‘Sunday Run’ with a number of those involved in Saturday’s Trial (both competitors and marshals) taking part. With both a long and short route available, the day promises to be a wonderfully relaxed affair, with those facing a longer trip home still able to take in some of the splendid sights of the Peak District before they depart. Rolls-Royce, MG, Vauxhall, Sunbeam, Lagonda, Alfa Romeo, Bentley and more are all represented.

We wish all those taking part, competitors, organisers and marshals another wonderful VSCC weekend.
