Two major institutions of Pre-war motorsport to reunite this weekend as VSCC return to Donington Park

Friday 18 July 2014

Three original Bob Gerard Cars headline a strong entry to celebrate the British Racing Great as the VSCC return to historic Donington Park for the first time since 2011 tomorrow, Saturday 19 July.
In honour of one of the greatest British racing drivers of the immediate Pre- and Post-war eras, we host our Bob Gerard Memorial Trophy Meeting. In what would be the centenary of his birth, the Club will welcome members of the Gerard Family and several drivers, mechanics and members from Bob’s racing teams to join the celebrations.
Three of the cars which Bob campaigned so successfully will be in attendance, including Nick Topliss’s ERA R4A and the Cooper Bristol Mk II of Steve Russell, which will both feature in the day’s Bob Gerard Memorial Trophy title race for Pre-1961 Racing Cars. Also on display will be the Riley TT Sprite of Jim Runciman, the car raced by Bob Gerard at Donington throughout the 1930s, which will join the other two in a lunch time Parade.

We look forward to some exciting racing with a traditionally eclectic 10-race programme catering for all manner of Pre-war and Historic Racing and Sports-Cars. A further two ERAs will line up for the title race, including Duncan Rickett’s E-Type and Ben Fidler’s AJM 1, star at the recent 50th British Grand Prix Parades at Silverstone, whilst Riley, Frazer Nash, Alta, Connaught and other marques are also represented. Continuing the Gerard connection, the day also includes a race for F3 (500) Racing Cars, as well as a jam-packed grid of genuine Pre-war Sports-Cars, the prestigious Boulogne Trophy for Vintage Racing Cars and our fabled annual Handicap Race for Edwardian Cars, which boasts a stellar grid of ‘centurions’, including Mark Walker’s revered 1905 Darracq 200HP Land Speed Record machine.

As always, the action is not just confined to the track; there will also be a Trade Village which will offer unique and interesting motoring accessories, books and more for all car enthusiasts. And as always, Paddock access is free to spectators so be sure to come and see the cars up close, including the three Gerard machines.

Tickets are available on the day at £15 per person and children under 14 go free.

Qualifying Practice begins at 9.30am with Racing commencing at 1.00pm.
