Springtime in Surrey for VSCC Rallyists this weekend

Friday 24 April 2015

The first daytime event of the VSCC Rally Season, the Spring Rally, will take place tomorrow Saturday 25 April, with headquarters based in Churt, Surrey.
The day’s 95 mile route will wind its way through the Hampshire-Sussex-Surrey triangle – a relatively new area for VSCC Navigation Rallies so is sure to offer our crews something different and will include a halfway Lunch Break.

We are delighted that the event will be based from Club Members, Tanya and Robert Lewis’s home in Churt, Surrey who have kindly offered to host the event, whilst Club Director, Dick Patten and his wife Kimberley along with James Campbell and Andrew Mortimer comprise the organising team. We also welcome the help of local Inter Register members to aid in the organisation and marshalling of the event.

Following their Richard Dames-Longworth Trophy victory and second place finish at our Measham Rally in January, the long-standing team of Mark Garfitt and Dood Pearce set off as Car Number 1 on the road in the Frazer Nash/BMW, determined no doubt to take top spot this time. It will prove an almighty challenge, however, with a host of experienced crews amongst the 55 strong entry.

It is widely regarded amongst the drivers that it is the Navigators who do all the ‘hard work’ and there is another impressive line-up of Co-Drivers signed up for the day’s challenge, including the Club’s own reigning Navigator Champion in Annabel Jones, who guides young Charles Tindle on his second ever VSCC Rally in the Frazer Nash Anzani, and former World Rally Championship winning co-driver, Fred Gallagher, although this time in the driver’s seat of his Lancia Aprilia.

A warm welcome too for the 25 teams in our Novice and Champagne Classes with four Members making their VSCC debuts, including Clive Godsell in his Singer Le Mans and Wellwood and Anne Maxwell in their Railton Terraplane.

We would like to wish all Competitors, Marshals and Officials the best of luck for the Rally and hope they have another enjoyable day with the VSCC.
