VSCC to again raise money for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity at Prescott

Wednesday 22 July 2015

As in recent years, the VSCC is delighted to announce the MAAC as the featured charity at this year’s Prescott Vintage Speed Hill Climb Weekend, taking place next week at the famous Gloucestershire venue from Friday 31 July to Sunday 2 August.
In addition to their traditional fundraising efforts, the Club have also donated to the charity to provide this year’s Children’s Bouncy Castle (their ‘Heli-Bounce’) which will be situated in its traditional location behind the Orchard Trade Village, next to the Kids’ Sweets & Games Tent, which will be free throughout the three days.

With no Government or Lottery funding, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity does need in excess of £6.5 million to keep their three airbases operational in six counties, including Gloucestershire.  Each mission costs in the region of £2,500, and an average of ten missions takes place every day, 365 days a year.   Susie Godwin, Gloucestershire Fundraising Manager says:  “We are absolutely delighted that the VSCC have once again chosen us as the main charity for their prestigious three day Vintage Speed Hill Climb event at Prescott, and we are enormously grateful to all our supporters who keep us flying, Saving Lives by Saving Time”.

Following the great success of last year’s 80th Anniversary Hill Climb, we are excited to bring back the additional one-day event again, taking place at Prescott on Friday 31 July. This will follow the familiar format of our other one-day Hill Climbs, with morning Practice Runs followed by the Competitive Runs in the afternoon. Again the day will see around 150 Competitors tackle the long course, including Ettore’s Loop, which proved such a hit last year whilst we also offer Post-war Classes for Pre-1961 Historic Racing Cars (including F3 500).

This will be followed by the traditional, much loved Prescott Speed Hill Climb, two-day event on 1/2 August, accommodating the standard entry of 260 competing Pre-war cars, with Practice on Saturday and Competitive Runs on Sunday, whilst we will also welcome an incredible ‘world record’ display of original Riley Sprites as part of their own 80th Anniversary celebrations this year.

Away from the track, you will find the usual array of attractions and entertainment in place for all three days, with the Orchard the traditional attraction in its own right with Pre-war cars filling every available space; the well-populated Trade Village and Autojumble, Sunday’s Bicycle Races, Jazz Band and a variety of Children’s Entertainment will all be part of the celebrations and the Prescott Clubhouse will be providing the crowds with sustenance.

We also remember VSCC Past President and Club legend, ‘Steady’ Barker, with a Champagne Reception on Saturday evening alongside the traditional Bonhams Hog Roast.
