Cotswolds to host the finale to the VSCC Trials Season this weekend

Friday 20 November 2015

Another extremely popular VSCC Trials Season comes to an end this weekend, as we head to our traditional event headquarters at Prescott Hill Climb near Winchcombe for our annual season-ending Cotswold Trial tomorrow Saturday 21 November.
A full entry of 110 Pre-war Cars will descend on the Gloucestershire countryside to tackle a total of 13 sections in the local area, with the final four of which situated within the grounds of the famous Hill Climb venue itself. There, we anticipate a bumper crowd of Spectators to come and watch our members in action as the day’s competition comes to a conclusion and the final standings are decided.

The event will conclude the Club’s year-long Trials season of seven events around the UK, from Scotland to Exmoor, with the year’s ‘Champions’ to be determined by the end of the day. Heading into the final round and with the traditional ‘Best 6 from 7 scores to count’ format, it’s all still to play for.

The Short Wheelbase Class has proved an epic battle between Donald Skelton (Austin 7) and David Golightly (Ford Model T) all season long.  Challenging conditions at the Club’s recent Lakeland Trial delivered below par results for our front-runners, who will both expect to drop their respective scores from that event.  To that end, David would take a slight advantage over Donald of just 27 points going into the season’s last Trial this weekend so it should prove to be an exciting climax to the year.

Paul Jeavons looks to have tied up the overall victory in the Long Wheelbase Class in his Vauxhall 30-98 for a second consecutive year as he only trails in the standings by less than a dozen points, having only competed in five events so far – thus this weekend’s score is still to count.  However, should he suffer any mechanical problems, then current leader Robert Hodgkinson could still take the spoils in his Ford Model A.

Amongst the ‘Standard’ cars, both Russell Hennessy (Morris Bullnose) and Dennis Bingham (Ford Model A) will surely enjoy a ‘lap of honour’ in the Cotswolds following their strong and consistent performances throughout the season.

We thank Club Member and Trials Marshal, Peter Livesey for again collating scores on behalf of the Club in 2015.

SPECTATOR INFORMATION
As in previous years, all Spectator Hills are located at Prescott and will open at 12 noon when Competitors will arrive back to the venue having completed the day’s other sections.
