Enjoy a day of nostalgia with the VSCC New Year Driving Tests at Brooklands this weekend!

Friday 29 January 2016

This Sunday 31 January will see two stalwart organisations of Pre-war motorsport – the Vintage Sports-Car Club and Brooklands Museum, the historic birthplace of British Motor Sport and Aviation – join forces for the Club’s annual New Year Driving Tests.
Following weeks of Winter fettling and hibernation, the event represents the first chance for Competitors to get back behind the wheel of their Pre-war cars in 2016 – save those hardy souls who have already braved the season for our overnight Measham Rally earlier this month.

The New Year Driving Tests follow on from another successful edition of the Club’s Winter Driving Tests at Bicester Heritage in December, as we look forward to another impressive entry of over 60 Pre-war Touring and Sports-Cars for this favourite event on the Club’s calendar. They will tackle 14 tests located around the famous site, including Test Hill, the Banking and the Finishing Straight.

From a debut performance for Michael Sharpe’s 1916/18 Buick-engined Mitchel Board Racer – the day’s sole Edwardian entry – to Andrew Messent’s 1938 Morgan Super Sports, the day will boast yet another wonderfully eclectic line-up of historic machinery on display.

In addition to the ubiquitous Austin 7 in its many Saloon and Sports-bodied guises, we welcome representatives from a host of other celebrated Pre-war marques such as MG, Trojan, Standard, Ford, Morris, Singer, MG, Alvis, Wolseley and more, with all eyes on the likes of VSCC Driving Test regulars Mark Ballard (Frazer Nash) and Charlie Martin (Riley) to challenge for victory again.

As is tradition, Spectators are expected to attend in their hundreds, many in their own Pre-war machinery. The assembled display, in addition to the Museum’s other celebrated attractions including the recently restored Stratosphere Chamber and new 4D Theatre make it a fantastic day out for all the family (see www.brooklandsmuseum.com for more information).

Access to the Museum site is from 9.00am, with Morning Tests starting at 10.00am, a Lunch Break approximately 12.45-1.30pm and a scheduled finish of 4.00pm.
