VSCC Sports-Cars at Castle Combe Autumn Classic Tomorrow!

Friday 30 September 2016

The VSCC are once again delighted to be featured at the Castle Combe Autumn Classic tomorrow, Saturday 1 October, where the Club’s Race for Pre-war Sports-Cars will again be the opening race of an exciting programme of Historic racing.
The Autumn Classic also includes races for Pre-1966 Historic Touring Cars, F3 (500s), 1950s Sports Cars, Pre-1966 Jaguars, Austin Healeys, Formula Juniors and Historic Aston Martins.

First held in 2012, the Autumn Classic – nicknamed the ‘Mini Revival of the South West’ – has become one of the most popular events of the Historic Racing calendar, and the VSCC Race offers a great chance to enjoy a wonderfully relaxed and social day at one of the UK’s most historic venues, which will also include a number of Classic Car Club Displays, Parades and Demonstrations.

As last year, the VSCC Race is scheduled to open the afternoon Race Programme, and so our cars may form the popular ‘Spectator Grid Walk’ during the lunch break. As in previous years, the VSCC Race accommodates the Club’s Standard and Modified Pre-war Sports-Cars, with entries also accepted on an invitation basis from those less modified cars classified as ‘Specials’.

With the Club’s own annual Race Championships now at an end, everyone will be racing for the fun of it. Perennial challengers of our Pre-war Sports-Cars series, Andrew Mitchell and Mark Brett will be keen to fly the flag in the HRG 1½ Litre and Ballamy-Ford V8 Special respectively but may find the going tough with some of the Club’s most experienced Historic racers also on the grid.

Patrick Blakeney-Edwards returns in the ever-entertaining Frazer Nash ‘Owlet’ Saloon, determined to repeat his Autumn Classic victory in his Super Sports last year, with his nearest challengers likely to come from the Aston Martin pairing of fellow Historic exponents, Simon Diffey and Mark Gillies, alongside the ever-competitive Alta of Sam Stretton.

Be sure to visit our Competitors in the Paddock, where we are delighted to be hosted by John, Lesley and the ‘ODM’ team.

For any Competitor queries, please contact Jo Lewkowicz at the Castle Combe Racing Club on 01249 784160 fax 01249 782392 email jol@castlecombecircuit.co.uk.

The VSCC have been allocated a dedicated area in the ‘Club Village’ by Westway Corner, where we hope to attract a number of Pre-war Cars to display alongside our Club Van and a number of other Car Clubs.

This will be located to the western side of the circuit between Camp Corner and Westway Corner (up to Bobbies Chicane), with access to the venue via the Camp Gate (Red), offering easy access to the Competitor Paddock on the day.

If you would like to park your Pre-war Car with the VSCC Display, there may be a limited number of places available on a first-come-first-served basis on the day (you will still need to buy your own Tickets for the event – see above).

Please report to the Camp (Red) Gate and let the marshals know that you are with the VSCC and they should be able to direct you to the Club’s area in the ‘Club Village’.

The Club thanks local Club Member, Paul Weaver and family for their assistance in managing the Club's Spectator Display Area on the day.
