Spring Rally Provisional Results and Photo Gallery Now Live

Tuesday 02 May 2017

Provisional Results from the Spring Rally, which took place this past weekend on Saturday 29 April, are now available for Club Members to download.
Set against the backdrop of the Goodwood Hotel adjacent to the iconic Motor Racing Circuit, more than 40 crews enjoyed a wonderful day of Vintage motoring through the idyllic ‘South Downs’, finishing back at the Sussex venue in glorious sunshine.

As anticipated, it proved a close competition for the day’s honours as the experienced pairing of Mark Garfitt and navigator, Dood Pearce claimed overall victory and the Martini Trophy in their Frazer Nash/BMW 319/55 Sports, just ahead of fellow VSCC Rally exponents, Allan Lupton and David Kirkham in their Lea-Francis 12.9 Sports by way of the ‘furthest cleanest’ tie-breaker ruling. A mere point behind the pairing, Fred Gallagher and Alan Smith were 2nd Class award winners in the Expert Class, alongside newcomers Martin Neal and Richard Dix in their MG TA, with James and Thomas Campbell picking up a 3rd Class in their Alvis 12/50.

The team of Peter Hanna and co-driver Daniel Camp topped the Semi-Expert standings in their Riley Gamecock, ahead of husband/wife duo Robert and Liz Renshaw, claiming silverware again in their Austin ahead of the fellow Austin Chummy of Paul Weston and Philip Agar, and ‘Chain Gang’ representatives Alastair Pugh and Louise Bunting in the former’s Frazer Nash TT Rep.

Tim and Vita Jones were worthy winners of the day’s Novice Class in their Vauxhall 30-98 Wensum, whilst Andrew Mortimer was guided to runner-up spot by 15-year old son, William in an impressive navigator debut and local-based Ian Latham enjoyed his first VSCC outing winning the Champagne Class in his Austin 7 Swallow.
