The
Bob Gerrard
Memorial Trophy Meeting
As August rolls
on so it’s time for
another unmissable VSCC event, the popular Bob Gerard
Memorial Trophies
Race Meeting at Mallory Park in Leicestershire on Sunday 22 August.
The VSCC
racing calendar will soon draws to a close (there is only one more race
meeting
left this season, SeeRed at Donington Park on 2-3 October) entries have
flooded
in as racers vie for championship positions and trophy
points. An action
packed day’s racing is on the cards thanks to a brilliant
line up of historic
cars competing in eleven races
Some 60
years of motor racing history are represented in the 160 cars that are
competing, the earliest being the popular Edwardian racers, the later
being the
early 1960s Formula Junior Racing Cars.
The
Edwardian Race has attracted a bumper grid of over twenty racers, the
earliest
car being a 1904 CGV, the latest a 1917 Hudson Super Six. It
will be an
unmissable race as Mark Walker contests his
first Edwardian Race in his recently
restored 1905 Darracq 200HP Land Speed Record Car which smashed the
Edwardian
Class Record at the 2010 VSCC Prescott Speed Hill Climb. He
will be
challenged by Julian Majzub in the 1916
Sunbeam Indianapolis and Duncan Pittaway’s 1913
Monarch makes a welcome return to the grid. Notably the
historic Coupe De
L’Auto Delage and Metallurgique Maybach are also in
action.
If you have
a passion for Pre-war Austin 7s, Mallory is the place to be; the
Voiturette
Trophy is well supported by Austins in many
different guises as well as
MGs and Rileys. Austin 7s will also
turn out for the
‘Burghley Trophy’ in a 6 lap Handicap Race.
The John
Taylor Memorial Trophy Race for Formula Junior Racing Cars represents
the later
end of the age spectrum from 1958 –1966. Jonathan
Milicevic has been
enjoying another successful season and races his Cooper T59.
Young
historic racer, Oliver Llewellyn, who at the tender age of 16 years old
is
creating quite a storm in his first season of historic racing, will
drive a
Formula 2 Cooper Mark 6. The action will be fast and furious
over 12
laps.
The feature
race of the day, the Bob Gerard Memorial Trophy Race, sees 30 years of machinery represented in a glorious
12 lap
battle. The race will be an ERA versus Cooper
battle; fitting as
Gerard raced both marques in period. Graham Burrows pilots
the ex-Bob
Gerard Cooper Bristol looks set to be one of the front
runners.
Duncan Ricketts brings the glorious ERA E Type out for a leg stretch
ahead of
Goodwood Revival and Fred Harper will be trying to tame the
Kurtis
Indy-Roadster around the 1.3 mile circuit.
Robin
Tuluie’s Riley engined Menasco Pirate has been
gaining form and reliability with every race this year; can he improve
on his
third place podium position in the Seaman Trophies at Pembrey last
month in the
Vintage Racing Car Race? The ‘Chain Gang’
drivers of Robert Carr
(AC/GN Special) and Dougal
Cawley
(GN Ford Special) will be sure to put up a stiff challenge.
