The Vintage
Sports-Car Club
celebrates the enigma that is British motor racing legend, Mike Hawthorn, at Oulton Park this Saturday,
22 May.
Over
130 Vintage and Historic Racing Cars will be flocking to Oulton Park
this
Saturday, to compete in the VSCC’s Hawthorn Memorial Trophies
Race
Meeting. This popular event, named after the great Grand Prix
Racer, Mike Hawthorn, will
see
Pre-World War Cars and Post-war Historic Racing Cars in action in a
programme
of eleven races offering a memorable and different day out for all the
family.
Cars
from evocative marques such as Alvis, Bentley, MG, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti,
Frazer
Nash, Riley, Aston Martin, Delage, Morgan and ERA will compete for
coveted
trophies in a mixture of handicap and scratch races.
Don’t expect the
competition to be lacking; these vehicles will be raced in anger by
competitive
racers.
A
highlight of the meeting is the Morgan Three Wheeler Race, a 5 lap race
for
Pre-war cars where drivers race with passengers on the 2.6 mile circuit.
Local
competitors will be in action and will be bringing interesting vehicles
out to
race such as Mark Butterworth from Alderley Edge who drives his
beautiful and
very large 4.4 litre 1938 Lagonda V12 in the Bill Phillips Trophy, a 6
lap
Trophy Race for Standard and Modified Pre-war Sports-Cars.
Fellow Lagonda
driver, Nigel Hall from Mottram races his 1935 Lagonda Sports-Tourer in
a 4 lap
Handicap Race along with Noel Runnels-Moss from Chester who drives
one of the oldest cars, a 1921 Vauxhall 30-98. Crispin Harris
of Sandbach
is one of the front runners in the 1950s Sports-Car Race; he pilots his
1959
Lister Jaguar Knobbly in the 10 lap race which will be one of the
fastest and
most competitive events of the day.

Over
60 Pre-war cars have entered the ‘Cheshire
Concours’; they will be judged in
the morning and will participate in a track parade at approximately 12.30pm.
Practise
starts at 9.00am, the first
race, the
Morgan Three Wheeler Race is at 1.15pm which gets a
full
programme of racing underway for the day.
Advance
ticket sales are now closed but tickets can be purchased on the gate
for £20
per person, (Children 12 years old and under are free).
Oulton
Park is
located just off the A54 or A49 near Tarporley. It is only
fifteen
minutes from the M6. Parking is free and it is possible to
park near to
the track and enjoy a great vantage point of the racing from the
comfort of
your car. Paddock access is free so you can get close to the
competing
cars and drivers, there will also be trade stands and refreshments.
