20 May

B12

The deadline to enter the VSCC Brooklands Speed Trials, part of the Brooklands Double Twelve Event on Saturday 5 June at Brooklands in Surrey is fast approaching.  The VSCC are hosting a Sprint for up to 100 Pre-war cars on the famous Mercedes Benz World handling circuit, adjacent to the Brooklands site near Weybridge in Surrey in conjunction with the Brooklands Museum Trust.

There are sixteen classes open to all VSCC members and their Pre-war cars that have a VSCC Eligibility Document (Buff Form).  The track is 880 metres in length and includes a 350 metre long straight.  Competitors receive two practice runs in the morning and two timed runs in the afternoon.

Highlights of the entry so far include; include two Riley MPH cars (one of which is the prototype car), the ex-Bill Morris ERA, ERA R12C and Martin Overington’s Grand Prix Type 35B Bugatti.

Bentleys are the most popular marque entered so far, with five superb examples committed including Stanley Mann’s 1929 Le Mans.  Edwardian racers will be a real highlight; the 1907 Corbin Vanderbuilt Cup car and the 1907 Wolseley Wolsit Coppa Florio going head to head is a sight not to be missed.

Local members have also been eager to participate.  Richard Wills, West Horsley has entered his 1938 Frazer Nash BMW 328; Gary Clare of Walton on Thames is bringing his 1928 ‘Shelsley Walsh’ Hill Climb Special, ‘Grannie’.  James Trigwell, of Guilford will drive his 1935 Frazer Nash ‘Elecktron’.

The entry fee is £100 which includes light hospitality for the driver and one guest on the day.  Away from the track drivers and their friends and family can also enjoy a BBQ and Jazz Band on Saturday evening, grand-stand seating next to the track, free access to the Brooklands Museum, a Formula 1 simulator, Car Club Displays and family entertainment.  At the same time as the Sprint the Double Twelve Concours and Driving Tests will be taking place on the Brooklands site.

Entries close on Monday 24 May; click here to access the events page which has downloadable regulations and entry forms, or enter online.
