Dry weather
and sunshine are on the cards for the Vintage Sports-Car Club
Shuttleworth and
Nuffield Trophies Race Meeting at Cadwell Park, this Saturday,
19 June. Although
the temperatures will not be
tropical, don’t miss the opportunity of a dry day’s
racing at Cadwell Park.
Nearly 200 grid slots have been allocated, which sees
eleven races
taking place, Race 1 starts at 11.30am, and Race 2
starts the programme of
afternoon racing, after lunch at 1.00pm.
The Spero
Trophy Race will be contested by drivers of Pre-war cars, 1100cc in
capacity or
smaller. The
prestigious race has been
run since 1961; young member, William Mahany has won the race for the
past four
years in his 1938 HRG Le Mans model.
For
several of those occasions, including this year, he has travelled back
from the
Middle East, where his lives, to uphold his claim on the trophy. On Saturday his main rival
will be Frank
Hernandez in his lightning fast 1928 Austin 7 racer, the
‘Blaue Maus’ Special.
6 laps of fast and furious racing will be one
of the highlights of the day.

Mahany and
Fernandez battling in the 2009 Spero Trophy Race at Cadwell Park, which
Mahany (HRG) went onto win.
Twenty four 500cc
(Formula 3) racing cars make up a bumper grid for the 500 Owners
Association
Race. As in period, Coopers powered by Norton engines dominate the
entry. However a
rare appearance of three examples from
arch rivals in period, Kieft, will make this an exceptional race.
A capacity grid
of 28 ‘Chain-Gangers’ will travel from all over the
country to fly the flag for
the Frazer Nash Car Club. A
fantastic
field is made up of nearly every type of Frazer Nash and GN you could
hope for;
from hairy single-seater ‘specials’ to sedate but
beautiful standard
sports-cars.
The feature
race of the day, the Shuttleworth, Nuffield and Len Thomspon Memorial
Trophies
Race has so far attracted some stunning cars to the grid including
James
Baxter’s 1934 Frazer Nash Single Seater, Tim
Metcalfe’s rare 1936 Brooke ERA
and Leicestershire based David White in his 1953 Cooper Bristol.
The VSCC
meeting is the first day of the Cadwell Park
‘Vintage Weekend’, Sunday 20 June
sees the Vintage Motor Cycle Club host their annual race meeting at the
circuit. Those
camping over at the
circuit for the weekend will be able to enjoy the England v’s
Algeria World Cup Football match
at 7.30pm on Friday
evening, 18 June in the Clubhouse.
Advanced
ticket sales have now closed, tickets can be
purchased on the gate for £16.00 on the day, children aged 12
and under have
free access. Please
note, no dogs
allowed. Those
travelling to the circuit
in Pre-war cars can park in a special car park arranged by local
members, the
location will be sign posted upon arrival.
