The Speed Championship Opens With Curborough Speed Trials

Friday 04 May 2018

The 2018 Vintage Sports-Car Club Speed Championship commences with Round 1 – Curborough Speed Trials on Sunday 6 May. With an oversubscribed entry, a maximum run of 110 Pre-war cars will come together for the popular season opener.  The banking area around the track is expected to be brimmed with eager Spectators enjoying the forecasted highs of 21°C, al fresco picnics and fantastic Vintage Sprinting.
The Edwardian Class is proving to be a Class to follow with the Club’s President, Geoff Smith taking on other fascinating Edwardian machinery in his 1918 Piccard-Pictet Sturtevant Aero Special, which we last saw Loton Park in 2016 gaining the first place Class Award. Will Pic-Pic return as prolific as before or will it be beaten by Iam Balmforth in his 1917 Hudson Super Six Racer?

With many 2017 Class Champions in action on Sunday the ones to watch out for include, David Furnell in ‘The Toy’, a 1930 Austin 7 Special, to see if he can defend his overall Speed Championship title whilst Tom Walker in his 1930 Amilcar Hispano Special will also be attempting to defend his title, The Curborough Trophy.

A dedicated Pre-war car park will be available on a first come first basis, with the on track action starting at 9am with practice and competition starting at 1:30pm - be sure to set your alarm nice and early, not forgetting your sun cream!

Besides the exhilarating track action, there will be two food outlets serving hot and cold food as well as drinks all day.

Tickets on the gate £12 with under 16s going for free.
