Meet Our Marshals: Eric Stenson

Friday 01 June 2018

The Marshals are some of the most important people at VSCC events – without them, we simply wouldn’t be able to run! We're excited to introduce you to some of our fantastic marshals from our Meet Our Marshals programme feature, starting with the fantastic Eric Stenson...
How did you get involved with the VSCC?
I was asked one evening in the pub if I fancied a drive around Derbyshire in an old car. I said no, being a Derbyshire lad, a drive round Derbyshire wasn’t anything exciting. It turned out to be the John Harris Derbyshire Trial. Lots of unexpected fun was had, and the hook was set. I became a regular Trials bouncer for Clive Press, was introduced to Sprints and Hill Climbs and eventually joined the Club and started driving a borrowed car in Trials.

How long have you been Marshalling?
10-11 years.

Why did you start Marshalling?
To give something back to the Club! Seeing the dedication of Trials Marshals all through the winter months and weather, giving something back in fairer weather conditions seemed a good idea.

What’s your favourite aspect about Marshalling with the Club?
The people you meet, no matter where or what I’m doing - start line at Race Meetings, assembly or paddock at Sprints and Hill Climbs - there is always someone new to talk to and something different to talk about. Even if the conversation usually starts with: Are you dressed and ready?!? Oh, and old cars

Describe Marshalling in 3 words?
Fun, friends, and family.

Why should others get involved in Marshalling?
It’s the most fun you can have with old cars, without actually owning one.
