Thursday 09 August 2018

Formula Vintage returns once more to the glorious Mallory Park for Round 4 on Saturday 11 August. The amphitheatre setting provides Spectators with phenomenal views of our Racers' taking on the challenging track including the Bob Gerard which to this day is one of the most challenging and famous corners in the Country.
With a thrilling 12 Race Programme scheduled including an exciting line-up of Historic Racing and Pre-war Sports Car grids, as well as the inaugural running of the Herbert Austin Challenge with competitors from both the VSCC and 750MC taking part, the day is sure to be an exciting one! With Trophy Races for Vintage, Post-Vintage, Historic Racing and Sports-Cars, including the Invited Grids of the Morgan Challenge and the F3 500s the spoils will be shared out amongst the 180 competitors.

The main extravaganza for the day with be the hotly anticipated Edwardian Handicap Race for the Dick Baddiley and Edwardian Racing Trophies which see extraordinary machines take to the track. The oldest car in this Grid is the 1904 Pope-Toledo Gordon Bennet which is owned by Hicky Hickling and will be driven by Rob Hubbard, who last year was third in this Race in his 1911 Sunbeam - a similar car to that which Dick Baddiley competed in during the first Edwardian Race at Mallory Park in 1991.

Also on the track will be a dedicated Under 30s Handicap Race for our Young Members as the Club continues to invest in their future. This Under 30s Handicap Race will be fiersy contested by our exciting Young Members. With a full Grid of 22 cars, and 2 reserves, ranging from a 1914/1918 Vauxhall A/D Type owned by Alisdaire Lockhart and driven by Rebecca Smith to a 1935 Wolseley Hornet Special owned by John Seber and driven by David Seber. The true essence of the Club is highlighted in this Race with 16 of the 22 cars entered being loaned to the Young Members by their older counterparts. The future of the Club also looks set to be diverse with a strong contention of the Grid being filled with 22% of ladies. The youngest driver in the Race will be Louis Parkin's, who at 18, is set to complete in his second ever Race with the Club. We last saw Louis out at Formula Vintage - Round 3 - Cadwell Park, where he successfully compete in Matthew Parkin's 1927 Frazer Nash Super Sports. Having travelled all the way from Co Kildare in Ireland, can the 26 year old John Kavanagh make his trip worth while and take the honours in his 1927 Frazer Nash Super Sports?

Off track entertainment includes a wonderful Edwardian Grid Walk in during the lunch break. The Club is also celebrating cars that turn 100 this year with a special display on the outfield available throughout the day. The Lakeside Café, located in the Paddock, will be open from 0700 hrs on Saturday, offering snacks and meals throughout the day. Alternatively, bring a picnic and enjoy your lunch overlooking the track and surrounded by the brilliant VSCC 100 Club. If you forget your pudding, do not panic, join us on the outfield during the lunch break for the VSCC 100 Club's celebratory birthday cake!
