Late Entries still available for this weekend's Autumn Rally

Tuesday 02 September 2014

Following the overwhelming success of the recent Acorn Rally, part of the 80th Anniversary Week of Celebrations in Peterborough, the next Navigation Rally on the VSCC calendar will take place this weekend, with our Autumn Rally, this year based in Derbyshire on Saturday 6 September. If you haven’t entered yet, there is still time – contact the Office now!
We move north for this year’s event and welcome local Club stalwart Anthony Costigan as late replacement as Clerk of the Course. The Navigational Rally will be in two parts, totalling approximately 100 miles through the beautiful Peak District. The event will start and finish at Cromford Mill, Mill Rd, Matlock, Cromford, Derbyshire DE4 3RQ, the first water-powered, cotton spinning mill, developed by Richard Arkwright in 1771. It’s a fascinating starting point with ample parking and good range of shops if you have the time to browse.

As the name implies it will be a hilly route, benefitting from tremendous views across the craggy Derbyshire countryside. Start will be 10.00am with the finish shortly after 4.00pm, with fuel available before the lunch stop. The lunch stop, for which 1½ hours has been allowed, will be at the recently refurbished Charles Cotton Hotel, which is located in Market Place, Hartington, Derbyshire SK17 0AL. The village of Hartington is set in the stunning Peak District National Park and is famous for cheese-making.

As ever, Novice and Champagne Class Route Instructions will be kept straight-forward with plenty of grid references to keep you on track. An incredible 100 Pre-war cars participated in the recent Anniversary Rally, including a stellar entry of newcomers so we hope to see many back to try their hand again. Don’t forget that there are no restrictions to entrants for Champagne Class; any Pre-war car may be used, so no need for a Buff Form, and there are no classification awards in this class – the perfect opportunity for those Members looking for a less competitive form of participation!

Entry Deadline has now passed but we will still be delighted to welcome late entries. Please contact the Competition Department on 01608 644777 Ext 4 or email gemma.price@vscc.co.uk
