Jack Sears (1930 – 2016)

Monday 08 August 2016

The VSCC are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of legendary British racing driver and Club Member, Jack Sears.
A Club Member since 1951, ‘Gentleman Jack’ was winner of the inaugural British Saloon Car Championship in 1958, regaining the same title in 1963. Following an accident in testing at Silverstone two years later, he retired to focus on the family’s farm in Norfolk.

A regular visitor to VSCC events, including this year’s ‘Spring Start’ Meeting at Silverstone in April, Jack was also ‘Guest of Honour’ for the Club’s long-awaited return to Snetterton in 2012, where he presented the Club’s prestigious Historic Seaman Trophy to David Morris in his ERA R11B ‘Humphrey’ – the car making its own successful return to the Norfolk venue where it won the circuit’s first ever Race Meeting in 1951.

The Club’s thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.
