Last month saw Competitors, Marshals and Club Members raise a fantastic £500 at Oulton Park in memory of former Club Secretary, Mike Stripe, which has been donated to the family’s chosen charities Cancer Research and Myton Hospice, Warwick. The VSCC also rename the Club’s annual Team Relay Race in his honour.

The Team Relay Race for Pre-war Sports-Cars is one of the undoubted highlights of the Club’s racing calendar each year, bringing with it the enjoyment and camaraderie that underlies the true spirit of a VSCC Paddock. The event was always close to Mike’s heart, having played a leading role in managing the race for a number of years and, as such, we are delighted to rename it the Mike Stripe Team Relay Race.
 
This year’s edition will be held on the evening of Saturday 20 August at Pembrey. As part of the Club’s Welsh Speed Weekend, the event will be an exciting finale to Saturday’s track action, following the conclusion of the Sprint, and a great warm-up for Sunday’s Seaman Memorial Trophies Race Meeting programme.
 
Following successful runnings of the event at this venue in both 2013 and 2014, this year’s race will follow a similar format, as follows:

• The Race will be 90 minutes
• Teams will consist of a maximum of three drivers and three cars and a minimum of three drivers and two cars (two drivers sharing one car acceptable) - drivers/cars will only be allowed to enter one team.
• A Team Manager must be appointed (who may or may not drive in the race) and a Judge will be allocated to each team to keep record of penalties, time-management etc.
• Read full regulations for the race in the ASRs.

A number of Competitors have already notified us of their intent to enter a team. With publication of the Regulations and Entry Fees, we are now formalising entries and require Entry Forms to be submitted; CLICK HERE to download the complete Team Race Pack, which includes:

• Team Race Additional Supplementary Regulations (ASRs)

• Team Race Entry Form Each individual driver in the Team of 3 is required to complete and return one of these (NB in addition to any entry form submitted for Sunday’s races e.g. Set 3 Redgate Mug Race).

• Team Registration Form The Team Manager for each team should complete this form (in addition to an individual driver entry form if also driving in the  race) detailing the Team Name, his/her own contact details, the three team driver/car combinations and confirmation of payment method for team.*

*Payment The Entry Fee for the event is £375 per team. This can be paid:

•  by each team driver individually (please include payment details/cheque for £125 with individual Entry Forms)

• by one team driver (please include payment details/cheque for £375 with individual Entry Form)

• by the Team Manager (please include payment details/cheque for £375 with Team Registration Form)

 
Entries close on Monday 8 August so don’t delay and submit your entries now. At £375 per team, the event provides a real bargain – you will not find many opportunities for 30 minutes of track-time for £125 with the added camaraderie and fun of a team event.
 
To ensure a real competitive edge, single marque teams are encouraged but by no means mandatory!
 
If you are interested in taking part but are not affiliated with an existing team, don’t dismay – contact the Competition Department now and we will take your details. Chances are we can match you to other individual entrants to form additional teams (such line-ups have performed admirably in past editions!)
 
Without a car or race licence? We are looking for our Judges for the day too so why not volunteer your services – it’s a great way to get involved and there is nothing quite like the camaraderie in the Pit Lane of the VSCC Team Race.
 
We are greatly looking forward to the race and hope it continues to be a stellar addition to our Welsh Speed Weekend at Pembrey. Don’t forget entries are now open for the Sprint (Saturday – ideal practice for the Team Race later in the day) and other races (Sunday) so why not make a complete weekend of your VSCC trip to West Wales? The Pembrey AutoSolo also joins the programme this year, taking place on Sunday morning for those not participating in the day’s racing.
