'Race Driver of the Year' Awarded to Sue Darbyshire

Thursday 07 December 2017

At the VSCC Race and Speed Forum, held at Bicester Heritage on Saturday 2nd December 2017 after the Winter Driving Tests had concluded, the inaugural presentation of the VSCC ‘Race Driver of the Year’ was made.
Launched to celebrate excellence across VSCC Racing, and perhaps most importantly voted for by fellow competitors, the hugely popular first recipient of the award was Mrs Sue Darbyshire.  Campaigning her Morgan three wheelers with verve, panache and no small measure of skill - Sue  was a leading light throughout the Formula Vintage calendar.

Amongst the comments from those who voted for Sue were: “Outstanding sportswoman - never gives up”. “Fast. Courageous. Sporting. Modest.” “Most consistent race & sports car driver, always safe and considerate.”

The presentation, which is intended to become an annual event, was made by VSCC President Geoff Smith who handed over the tankard to the accompaniment of loud applause and cheers of congratulation.  A Porsche Driving Experience at Silverstone compliments of our friends at the Porsche Centre Tewkesbury was also part of the award and to round off a day to remember Sue also won the draw from the Race Medicals held earlier in the day and a bottle of champagne compliments of Bonhams one of our Principal Associates.

An almost speechless Sue said:
‘I am still so stunned to get this award I feel like I should ask for a re-count as it cannot be true!’
