2018 SPEED CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS ANNOUNCED

PLUS A NEW AWARDS SPONSOR FOR THE 2019 SPEED SEASON
The sun has set on another fantastic season for the VSCC Speed Championship with Class and Course records tumbling at many Rounds.  The display of driving skills and endeavour from our competitors just gets better and better each year.

Now the 2018 Championship has come to a close we are pleased to announce the results.  With an impressive 77 points – Gary Clare is this year’s deserved winner.  Competing in an impressive 8 out of 9 rounds in his 1928 Grannie and achieving no less than 16 Awards including a Class 13 Record at the Snetterton Sprint and Fastest Vintage in Round 8 at Loton Park.

Other high achievers this year included Jo Blakeney-Edwards who came 2nd overall in her 1929 Frazer Nash Super Sports scoring a total of 68 points.

Last years Champion David Furnell was 3rd overall with a total of 64 points competing in his ever popular 1930 Austin 7 - “The Toy” as it is affectionately named.

Peter Batty won Young Driver Award with a commendable 46 points making this his second year at the top of the leader board for those under 30 years of age.

The Novice Award was won by James T. Roberts in a 1917 Vauxhall 30-98, not only a newcomer to the discipline but also a new member of the VSCC having joined in February of this year.

The Best Car Driven to Events Award goes to Colin Poynter who drove to four events and scored the highest amount of points in the process, this Award is kindly sponsored by Longstone Tyres.

Looking ahead to next season the VSCC is delighted to announce a new partner for our 2019 Speed Championship. Riley Specialists, Blue Diamond have kindly agreed to be our Awards Sponsor for the Championship.  They are also keen to help us support the next generation of competitor. This will include a new Trophy for the winner of the Young Persons Award, aptly named the Blue Diamond Trophy.  The winner will also be rewarded by Blue Diamond covering the cost of their entry fees for the 2020 Speed Season. Both the VSCC and Blue Diamond Riley Services hope this is the start of a long and successful relationship.
