We have tried to build upon the outstanding success and popularity of the 2012 Norfolk Tour for the 2013 event. For this one more year we are continuing with a World War II Bomber Command background theme in that we start and finish at The Grove Cheshire Home at East Carleton, NR14 8HP, south-west of Norwich.

Some of you will know that the late Leonard Cheshire V.C., O.M., D.S.O. and two bars, D.F.C., was the famous Commanding Officer of 617 "Dambusters" Squadron, succeeding Guy Gibson  V.C., D.S.O. and bar, D.F.C. and bar, with the latter being the leader of the squadron at the time of the dams raid. Group Captain Cheshire founded the Cheshire Homes post-war, marrying the famous post-war charity campaigner and wartime Special Operations Executive Operator Sue Ryder in 1959. We are currently negotiating for their son to be present at the finish of our run to say a few words and present small prizes to the owners of his favourite cars. We also are working for the residents of the home to be and to feel a part of the Tour, for instance some may wish to be photographed in the presence of the cars at the finish, or have a say in which of them may have particular resonance for any individuals. We hope for a heart-warming and inclusive atmosphere on this Tour, and will also be collecting for the purchase of a special commemorative item for use in The Home for the subsequent benefit of the residents.

The run will again be of c.75 miles duration and will be based around The Broads, with the Lunch Stop at The Bridge Inn, Wayford, NR12 9LL, near Stalham – a special shorter option will be available for those who may wish to partake of our pre-arranged Guided Tour of R.A.F. Neatishead Radar Museum, and "Cold War" Early Warning Centre (see details below).

MEALS

Tea, coffee and bacon rolls will be available at the start whilst there will be tea and cakes at the finish, all included in the entry fee. There are no arrangements for lunch; those wishing to book lunch at The Bridge Inn, Wayford, NR12 9LL, tel. 01692 582 414 must do so directly with the venue.

RAF AIR DEFENCE RADAR MUSEUM (OPTIONAL EXTRA)

Continuing the military theme, the Club has pre-arranged a Guided Tour of the Air Defence Radar Museum at RAF Neatishead.  The Museum traces the history and development of Air Defence Radar since its invention in 1935 right up to today's defence of the UK and British Forces abroad. Today, the Museum, originally called the ‘Air Defence Battle Command and Control Museum’, is an independent Trust and the Chairman of the Trustees is Air Commodore Kevin Pellatt RAF with Air Chief Marshal Sir John Allison RAF as Patron. Running the Museum is the Manager, Chris Morshead who was a Communications and Radar Engineer with the Fleet Air Arm. He is supported by a team of dedicated Volunteers most of whom have worked at Neatishead at one time or another or have very strong links to the Base.
Tours last just over an hour at a discounted cost of only £5 per person (payable directly to the Museum on the day). If you would like to partake, please indicate on your Entry Form how many places you would like to book (please ensure to provide names for all your party on the Passenger Details section of the form).

To allow time for this Guided Tour, those who take part will follow a shorter route for the day. Details will be confirmed nearer the event once we know final numbers of participants.
