Hertfordshire Tour

25 Jun 2016

Barkway Village, Near Royston, Hertfordshire, SG8 8EB

Event main image
Starting just 35 miles due north of Charing Cross, the Tour takes you down numerous leafy lanes through really old villages; thatched roofs, flint churches and half-timbered buildings abound. It is a long time since VSCC visited this gem of an area, so close to London and so easily accessed from A1(M) and M11.

We start at a listed farmhouse in a conservation area and almost all of the route is 'yellow' roads. We have optional stop-offs at vintage establishments, a major historic building and a steam railway (small gauge).

The route totals 85 miles but there are short-cuts if you wish to dally at a stop-off. We pass through three OS maps but a single bespoke sheet has been created and will be issued along with the route book.

This day out could just be the way to forget (or celebrate) the result of the EU referendum published on the previous day!  We stray into Essex and just a little into Cambridgeshire. There is a choice of several delightful pubs for lunch, or you can select one of several village greens for a picnic. All marked on the route.

The Tour is open to all cars made before 1st January 1941 and driven by VSCC Members. The route will include some great Vintage driving in the North Hertfordshire countryside, great views of the rolling Northern Chilterns, and with generally little traffic.
Entry Fee: £25.00

Apart from route instructions, your fee Includes (for two persons) tea/coffee plus a bacon or cheese roll at the start and there are refreshments at the finish. En route you pass several pubs good for lunch, and several village greens good for a picnic.

Petrol is available in the village at the start and there is also petrol near the finish, as well as en route.

Tour starts at 10.00am. Trailer parking available, near but not AT the start.

Opening Date for Entries: NOW       Closing Date for Entries: Thursday 16 June

We are 4 miles south of the A505 on B1368, between Letchworth (A1M J9) and Duxford J10 on M11. Duxford is 9 miles from Barkway. Alternatively 1 mile east of A10, 4 miles south of Royston. Detailed advice will be issued in the regs (those using trailers are advised to take different routes).
We are quite close to London but, in the immediate area, hotel accommodation is not abundant. B&B and pubs with rooms are however all around. Please contact Jim Dalton on jim@bbrt.bbmax.co.uk  or 07976 612795 if you need help.
Please volunteer to the Competition Department  or email direct the local organising team directly at marshal@bbrt.bbmax.co.uk.

The entry list is only available to logged in members.
