The Delights of Derbyshire await the VSCC this weekend!

The Club are delighted to return to Derbyshire this weekend for two days of Vintage motoring, with Saturday’s John Harris Trial and a leisurely Touring Assembly on Sunday.
Over 120 Pre-war cars will be descending on Ashover, near Matlock – situated just to the east of the beautiful Peak District National Park – where event headquarters for both elements will be based once again at the local Village Hall. There, the organising teams will ensure another welcoming atmosphere for the hundreds of Competitors, Marshals and other participants.

Yet another capacity entry of over 100 cars are entered for Saturday’s Trial, organised by joint Clerks of the Course, Stephen Fathers and Andrew Staples and their team. Competitors will face 14 challenging sections over the course of the day, including those located at the popular Butts Quarry venue, where Spectators will be most welcome to come and watch the action which starts at  9.00am (parking, catering and toilet facilities all readily available on site). There were some familiar faces atop the results of our Exmoor Fringe event last month, the first Trial of 2015, with Donald Skelton’s Austin 7 a single point ahead of David Golightly’s Ford Model T Special, closely followed by reigning Club Trials champion, Matt Johnston, in his Austin – expect to see the trio challenge for top honours again this weekend as they contest an ever-competitive Short Wheelbase Class. There is another pleasing turnout amongst the Standard cars too, where David Rushton, winner in his MG M Type last time out, will face likely competition from David Leigh’s Frazer Nash Interceptor.

Paul Jeavons, our other current Trials champion, put in a solid performance at the Exmoor in his Vauxhall 30-98, but will be keen to improve on a 3rd Class Award in the Long Wheelbase Class this weekend. It will be tough going against the likes of John Fack’s Ford Model A, who scored his first VSCC Trials victory last month after years competing on the MSA Sporting Trials circuit. Of the Standard cars, Dennis Bingham and Roy Newton renew their Ford Model A rivalry amongst a host of other examples of the American stalwart.

All are sure to gather back at Ashover on Saturday afternoon to hear the day’s results.

Following last year’s successful first edition, we are delighted Club Member John Higgs and his team have again organised the ‘Sunday Run’ offering those taking part a relaxed day’s motoring to wind down after the excitement of Saturday’s Trial. Again, both long and short routes are available, taking participants through the stunning countryside and sites of North Derbyshire (think The Peaks, Arkwright etc), whilst an additional tour of the Engine House at Middleton Top has also been arranged. Rolls-Royce, MG, Vauxhall, Bugatti, Lancia, BMW, Bentley and more are all represented.
