VSCC Loton Park Hill Climb 2015 FLYER
Thursday 10 September 2015

A Record turnout for VSCC Hill Climb Season Finale at Loton Park this Weekend

A capacity entry of over 180 Pre-war and Historic Racing and Sports-Cars will descend on the idyllic Loton Park in Shropshire this weekend, the 12/13 September, for the Vintage Sports-Car Club’s annual two-day finale to its popular Hill Climb Season.
Ancestral home to the Leighton Family for over 300 years, and set within the confines of the Estate’s picturesque deer park, Loton’s 1475 yards course is a great challenge for both car and driver, with Competitors receiving two Practice Runs on Saturday and two Timed Runs towards competition on Sunday. The event boasts the full complement of Pre-war classes for both road-going and racing machinery, as well as an Invited Class for Post-war Racing Cars, which accommodates celebrated examples of both F3 (500) and Formula Junior.

With the annual Hog Roast, on the Saturday evening, local ale aplenty and many of our Competitors, Marshals and Spectators camping onsite for the duration of the weekend, it is truly one of the most social events on the Club’s extensive calendar.

This year’s entry is the strongest in recent memory with the event at virtual capacity for the two-day competition for the first time in a number of years. Following the tremendous celebrations at Mallory Park last month, we look forward to welcoming more than a dozen Pre-1918 Edwardian Cars to take part, including the awesome 1905 Darracq 200HP Land Speed Record Holder.

Almost all Pre-war manufacturers are represented, with examples from the likes of Bentley, Alvis, MG, Frazer Nash, Riley, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti and a number of revered original racers, such as the GN-based Vintage Shelsley Walsh Specials ‘Spider’ and ‘Wasp’ and the Frazer Nash Nurburg, one of the three of the historic racers produced by the marque from 1932-33. The prestigious ‘Fastest Time of Day’ title is sure to be a fiercely fought contest with a number of familiar faces amongst the likely favourites, such as Julian Grimwade’s Frazer Nash Norris Special, the AC/GN ‘Cognac’ of Tony Lees and Pete Candy’s Riley Special ‘Super Rat’.

Loton Park boasts some of the best spectator vantage points amongst all Hill Climbs around the UK and, as at all VSCC events, access to the Competitor Paddock is free, where Spectators can get up close to the competing cars and drivers, whilst there will also be Trade Stands and Autojumble to explore and catering facilities available throughout the weekend.

Practice begins at 9:30am on Saturday and the Timed Runs begin at 9.30am on Sunday with Lunch Break scheduled from 1.00-2.00pm each day.

Tickets are available 'On the Gate' each day (Saturday - £6; Sunday - £10) and Children Under 16 go free all weekend whilst Camping is also available onsite on Friday and Saturday.

Loton Park is 9 miles west of Shrewsbury.  Turn off the A458 Shrewsbury to Welshpool Road to the village of Alberbury, the hill is just beyond the village.  Loton is only a short hop down the M54 from the Midlands (Loton Park Hill Climb, Loton Park, Alberbury, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY5 9AG - click here to view the map).
