The Tour this year will venture north east to Dunbar Castle, where in 1567 Mary Queen of Scots spent her last days in freedom before her capture and imprisonment in Leven Castle on an island in Loch. She managed to escape from Leven Castle, raised an army of some 6,000 men but was defeated in 1568 at the Battle of Langside and then took refuge in Dundrennan Abbey. Three days later – on 16 May 1568 - she crossed the Solway Firth into England and into the hands of her cousin, never to return to Scotland.  Lunch will be at “The Rocks” restaurant in Dunbar, EH42 1AR (telephone: 01368 862 287) with a view of the Castle across the bay, before returning to St Boswells for the Scottish Weekend Dinner at the Buccleuch Arms in the evening.  The route this year will cover around 150 miles with the start and finish at the hotel. The morning route will follow the River Tweed downstream through Kelso towards Coldstream, an historic border town between the two countries. The route will then cut back to Dunbar for lunch and the return journey will be through the Lammermoor Hills back to the hotel.moor
