Lincolnshire Tour
16 Jun 2024
Thorpe Camp Visitor Centre
Taking place the day after the VSCC Seaman Trophy Race Meeting at Cadwell Park, this tour will give members a great
opportunity to explore more of this beautiful but largely under-stated county
and to extend their vintage experience over the whole weekend.
The tour has
been designed to incorporate the differing but amazing landscapes of Lincolnshire, embracing elements of the county’s aviation history.
The tour
will start and end at the Thorpe Camp Visitor Centre, midway between
Coningsby and Woodhall Spa, where light refreshments will be offered both before
and after the tour. The visitor centre is on part of the 1940’s RAF Woodhall
Spa site with its connections to the 617 (Dambusters) Squadron. From there the
route, of approximately 70 miles, will travel northwards towards the Wolds
where stunning views will be enjoyed from near empty roads. Then travelling
South, the route will embrace some typical fen landscapes before returning to
Thorpe Camp.
During the
day, you will pass Woodhall Spa, the famous Petwood Hotel, Horncastle with its
antique shops, the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre and the Battle of
Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre.
No specific
lunch stop has been arranged in order to offer flexibility if you wish to stop
off at any of the places of interest. Accordingly, you are advised to bring a
picnic lunch.
It is
anticipated that there will be strong demand for places on this new tour and
with limited numbers, early booking is advised.
