Club Members in action at Harewood Classic and Vintage Meeting tomorrow

Friday 31 May 2013

Vintage Sports-Car Club members will be in action at Harewood Hill Climb tomorrow, Saturday 1 June, for the annual ‘Classic and Vintage Meeting’.  Over one hundred entrants will be flying up the 1,584 yard Yorkshire  course in a huge variety of vehicles from a Pre-war ERA to a Jaguar C Type.
The day, organised by BARC, sees a Bentley Driver’s Club Class sporting five Pre-war examples, including last year’s Class Winner Ewen Getley, who will be aiming to smash the class record in his 3/4½ Litre model. Austin 7s, MGs and Rileys are well represented, including Club Committee member Tim Kneller who travels all the way from Kent to try to win Class V9 in his Riley 12/4 Special.

Some local VSCC members will pit their more modern machines at Harewood’s challenge, such as local Rallying maestro Paul Wignall in his AC Ace and Rod Stansfield in his Elva Mk7.

Hill Climb ace, James Baxter of Huddersfield will thrill the Yorkshire crowds with the first appearance of the recently acquired ERA R4A, which he shares with owner and fellow VSCC Racer Nick Topliss.  As the outright winner of many ‘Vintage Harewoods’ previously, James is sure to put on an excellent performance in the historic machine. He faces competition from Chris Williams’s thunderous 24 litre Napier Bentley and Pete Candy’s Riley Super Rat for Fastest Pre-war Time of Day.

Practice starts at 9.00am and entry is only £10.00 per person and children under 14 benefit from free entry.  Car parking is free and there is a dedicated Classic & Vintage area located in the Hill Top Car Park. Official timed runs start from approximately 12.30pm.
