VSCC BOB GERARD MEMORIAL RACE MEETING AT MALLORY PARK UNAFFECTED BY LOCAL COUNCIL DECISIONS

Thursday 11 July 2013

At a time when many VSCC racing competitors are getting ready for the VSCC’s Bob Gerard Memorial Race meeting at the venue on Sunday 21 July, the noise debate at Mallory Park has come to the fore again with news that Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council intends to go ahead with plans to bring charges for breach of noise regulations against Mallory Park Motorsport Limited.
The Council's latest statement on the matter, made in advance of the now reported decision can be read at http://www.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk/press/article/1312/mallory_park_update
It should be noted Steven Atkinson, Chief executive of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, has said, “We don't  want Mallory Park to close. It is a national iconic venue”.

Nonetheless, VSCC Member, and others, will wish to know whether the VSCC race meeting will go ahead as usual, or not, especially as there are rumours circulating, apparently attributed to the circuit’s management team, that the venue could close as early as next week.

In an attempt to clarify the position, The VSCC Chief Executive, Mike Stripe, has been in touch with the Business Development Manager at the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC), Ian Watson. BARC are the operators of Mallory Park through local representative John Ward. BARC have given assurance that the venue is still entitled to its 92 ‘noisy days’ agreed with the local authority in 1985. The root of the current discontent concerns meetings not covered by that agreement. As such, racing meetings at weekends are NOT affected by any current discussions on the matter. To that end the venue is going ahead with its meeting entitled “The Festival of 1,000 Bikes” this weekend  and fully expects the VSCC meeting to go ahead on Sunday 21 July. Watson said that Mallory has its 92 days and the VSCC meeting will be unaffected and will proceed as normal.

Any VSCC competitor, official or visitor is encouraged, therefore, to plan your visit to Mallory as normal . Competitors and officials Instructions are being posted today and will be with those people as soon as the postal system allows.
