Incredible line-up of Pre-war Aston Martins will be the focus of VSCC Prescott Speed Hill Climb

Wednesday 17 July 2013

The world’s oldest Aston Martin makes rare appearance at Centenary celebration.
The oldest surviving Aston Martin, the 1921 ‘A3’,the only remaining prototype of five built by Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin, will be the centrepiece of a special display of Pre-war Aston Martins to celebrate the marque’s centenary at the Vintage Sports-Car Club’s Prescott Speed Hill Climb on 3-4 August thanks to the Aston Martin Heritage Trust.
The car came to light at the Bonhams Aston Martin Works sale in 2002 and underwent a full restoration overseen by Ecurie Bertelli and is on display at the Aston Martin Heritage Trust in Oxfordshire.
The ‘A3’ will be joined by an equally illustrious line-up of historically significant Pre-war Aston Martins including Team Cars from the Bamford and Martin years like ‘Green Pea’ which ran in the 1922 French Grand Prix, the ‘Halford Special’ and ‘Razor Blade’, both stalwarts of Brooklands and the latter also of Shelsley Walsh.  Co-ordinated by enthusiasts of vehicles from the formative period of the company it is hoped that these three will run competitively on the Prescott course alongside 250 fine examples of Vintage Sports-Car Club Pre-war cars.
It is anticipated that some 15 Pre-1939 Bertelli Sports-Cars will also join in the celebrations, the majority in private ownership including the only Renwick and Bertelli car in existence, the 1926 'Buzzbox' again from the Aston Martin Heritage Trust.
This is the second opportunity that the Vintage Sports-Car Club have provided for Pre-war Aston Martin enthusiasts to celebrate the marque’s centenary at a Club event, following the successful Aston Martin Race at the Silverstone ‘Spring Start’ Race Meeting in April.
The display will be in the exclusive Pre-war ‘Orchard Car Park’  on Sunday 4 August, whilst the competing cars will be located in the paddock all weekend.
Prescott Speed Hill Climb, located near Gotherington, North of Cheltenham,  is the jewel in the crown of the VSCC’s calendar of public events. Saturday 3 August is practice day, and on Sunday 4 August, each of the 250 competing cars will run twice against the clock.
Spectator tickets cost £15 on Saturday and £25 on Sunday per person, but savings of up to £10 can be made by purchasing tickets in advance before Tuesday 30 July. Children under 16 go free. Click here to order (click on 'tickets' or call 01608 644999 for further information.
