2014 Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival (14/15 June) - Entries Close Monday

Friday 30 May 2014

The closing deadline for the 2014 Brooklands Double Twelve Motor Sport Festival is fast-approaching. Incorporating the VSCC Speed Trials, the Double Twelve Driving Tests and the Double Twelve Concours, the weekend is a highlight of the motorsport calendar, with its wide array of classes catering for all manner of Edwardian, Vintage and Post-war machinery. Don't miss your chance to compete at the hallowed Brooklands venue and submit your entries now - remember that you must enter for any two of the three competitive elements to qualify for the prestigious Double Twelve competition.
To be held over 14/15 June, the weekend closest to the date on which the original track opened in 1907, this two-day extravaganza will feature Speed Trials, Driving Tests, the prestigious Double Twelve Concours and Test Hill ascents, alongside entertainment and family activities. Using the extensive historic Museum site and the facilities at neighbouring Mercedes-Benz World for the weekend, spectators and competitors will be able to enjoy a huge variety of motoring action.

The Classes for the three competitive elements reflect some of anniversaries and milestones in marque history that feature in 2014 as well as paying homage to the heritages of both Brooklands and the Vintage Sports-Car Club, the event co-organiser.  In the Double Twelve Concours, for example, 50 years of the Ford Mustang are celebrated along with 100 years of ‘Fords in Black’ for Model Ts and any other Ford in that colour so famously ordained by Henry Ford in his dictum of 1914: ‘Any colour so long as it is black’.

The appeal is widened at the Double Twelve this year as Classes also cater for Minis and their Moke utility variants, VW Beetles and Citroen 2CVs  and those ‘land crabs’ of the British Leyland era in the class for Austin and Morris 1800s from 1964-1975. Brooklands’ huge involvement in WWI is commemorated with a ‘Great War Remembered’ class for Veteran and Edwardian cars up to 1918 (ahead of the Brooklands Great War 100 event on August 3rd) and there is also a class to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Vintage Sports-Car Club.

Entrants will enjoy an inclusive hospitality area in the charming, period splendor of the Edwardian Clubhouse, the chance to drive on motoring ‘hallowed ground’ and when competing, will be in the capable hands of the VSCC and Brooklands marshals.

Entries for all three competitive elements this year will be managed by the VSCC. To encourage entries for the overall Double Twelve competition (enter any two of the three events), all entries should be made via the Double Twelve Entry Information Pack (CLICK HERE to download your copy). You will find an Entry Form enclosed to print, complete and return to the VSCC (post/fax/email accepted). This Entry Form will cover the same car for entering any two of the events (a separate form is required for a different car).

For those not taking part in the competitive elements of the weekend, the Test Hill Challenge will take place on Saturday and Sunday. This will involve everything from Sinclair C5s, bicycles and motorcycles to giant pre-war racing cars, car clubs and running races for energetic children up the punishing 352ft (107m) concrete slope. Some vehicles may even head down the Hill in a test of their brakes.

This year, the dynamic of the weekend is taken to new heights (literally) courtesy of Stunt Drive UK. An arena in front of the main Paddock will be occupied by stunt drivers and Guinness World Record holders, Alastair and John Moffatt who will be performing for the crowds. As well as J-turns and donuts, they will be recreating their record attempts at high-speed parallel parking. Earlier this year, they were featured on the CBBC programme Officially Amazing and will be signing autographs at the weekend for any youngsters who recognise them. Stunt Drive UK is the country’s largest and most established stunt driving school who also teach the car-based stunts often seen on the big screen to individuals and groups.

Among the roars and screeches of the cars tearing up the Test Hill or tackling the Driving Tests and Speed Trials will be the dulcet tones of 1950s chanteuse Marina Mae singing live, Swingtime Dance Company leading participants through steps of Lindy Hop and jive dancing with period music from vintage DJs and the Brooklands All Stars – the Museum’s resident jazz band. A day ticket for the Saturday or Sunday entitles you to come along to the Saturday evening event in the Clubhouse, where things will really start to rock with premier ‘50s band Conrad and the Atomiks.
