The Vintage Sports-Car Club and Cadwell Park join together to celebrate 80th Anniversaries this weekend

Friday 06 June 2014

There will be double cause for celebration this Saturday 7 June for the VSCC’s annual visit to Cadwell Park as both establishments mark their 80th Anniversaries this year. The Club held their first meeting at the Lincolnshire venue on 29 August 1976, returning almost every year since; with their Pre-war and Historic meetings regularly the most well attended four-wheeled events at the traditional bikers’ circuit.
The day’s Shuttleworth & Nuffield Trophies boast some of the Club’s most prestigious silverware, including the John Holland Trophy for Vintage Racing Cars, Geoghegan Trophy for Standard & Modified Pre-war Sports-Cars and Melville Trophy for Special Pre-war Sports-Cars.

The title event – designated for Pre-1961 Racing Cars and also incorporating the Len Thompson Memorial Trophy for Pre-war ‘Specials’ – attracts entries from such illustrious Pre- and Post-war manufacturers as ERA, Bugatti and Cooper Bristol, with the ex-Bob Gerard ERA R4A in scintillating form following a third place finish at the recent Monaco Historic Grand Prix.

Amongst the 11-race programme, we are also proud to once again host the Bugatti Owners’ Club’s hallowed Williams Trophy Race; the prestigious trophy is the very same given to William ‘Grover’ Williams, for his victory in the first Monaco Grand Prix in 1929, driving a Bugatti T35B. We also welcome the 500 Owners’ Association and Morgan Three Wheeler Club, whose grids provide the ideal complement to our own Pre-war and Historic races. The ever-popular Frazer Nash marque will also enjoy their annual Cadwell fix with a race for 2-seater cars, which will include one of the fabled ‘Nurburg’ machines.

One of the main strengths of Cadwell Park is the excellent viewing that Spectators can enjoy right the way round the circuit, such as the famous ‘Mountain’ grandstand (free access), offering an unparalleled view of competitors launching up the infamous climb towards the Clubhouse. Away from the track action, Spectators will also enjoy a dedicated Pre-war Car Park, free access to the Competitors Paddock, where they can get up close to the cars and drivers, a collection of Trade Stands and Autojumblers and quality catering facilities on site.

For those who did not purchase in advance, tickets will be on sale on the day at £17 per person and Children Under 13 go free! Practice Sessions will start at 9.00am, followed by Lunch Break (12.00-1.00pm approx) with Racing starting at 1.00pm.

Cadwell Park is located on the A153, 10 miles north of Horncastle and 5 miles south of Louth. If you are approaching from the south, the A153 can be accessed from the A1. Coming from the north or west, use the A1, M1 or M62, then take the M180 to Brigg, then the A1084 to Caistor. For more visit www.cadwellpark.co.uk

An added feature this weekend, those unable to attend the meeting will be able to follow the day’s racing in real-time online at www.LiveRaceTiming.com, provided by our timekeepers HS Sports.
