BONHAMS TO CONDUCT CHARITY AUCTION IN AID OF HENRY SURTEES FOUNDATION

Wednesday 25 June 2014

Bonhams will once again take to the rostrum at the 3rd Annual Charity Auction held in memory of the late son of ex-Formula 1 and 500cc motorcycle World Champion John Surtees.
Henry Surtees, who was widely tipped as a star of the future, was tragically killed in a freak accident while driving in a Formula 2 event at Brands Hatch in July 2009.

The Henry Surtees Foundation helps people with accidental brain and physical injuries, and provides education and training in technology, engineering and fitness.

The fund raising event will be held on Tuesday 1st July at Mercedes-Benz World, Surrey, with Bonhams Co-Chairman Malcolm Barber as auctioneer of the 22 exciting lots.

A Charity Challenge two hour endurance race in Daytona Dmax High-Performance Karts will also take place. Last year the event raised £58,000 combined with the charity auction proceeds.

This year’s auction features an exciting diversity of items, including a limited edition newly introduced Scalfaro John Surtees watch incorporating materials from  his MV Agusta and Ferrari 158; an original signed Sebastian Vettel 2012 race suit; a Red Bull Racing rear wing end plate signed by Christian Horner, Adrian Newey, Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo; afternoon tea at the Savoy and a private viewing of the Crown Jewels with Harry Collins the Queen's jeweller donated by him; two VIP tickets to Wings & Wheels air show donated by Brooklands Museum; a year's supply of Kurt Geiger shoes, plus the chance to secure two Porsche hospitality tickets for any British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) event of 2014.

Malcolm Barber said: "This auction is a fantastic event where every year people stand the chance to not only take home some truly remarkable items, but also know that their final bid will be donated to a worthy cause.

"It's a privilege to be involved; I'm once again delighted to see that there have been some truly generous donations for the auction."

The auction will begin at approximately 6.30pm. To register a bid - including those for telephone and absentee - contact Mark Gold at Bonhams on 0207 468 5807 or mark.gold@bonhams.com.
