Raise the Roof at the Frazer Nash Beer Festival

Friday 11 July 2014

We are trying to raise funds to make some major repairs to the roof of the Frazer Nash Archives in Henley-on-Thames, and we hope that by coming along to the unmissable Frazer Nash Beer Festival, you will help us with this extremely worthy cause. Those of you who attended our Festival five years ago at Malvern can’t fail to remember just what a great event this was … or perhaps because you enjoyed it so much you DO fail to remember!
Based in the Cambridge Suite, East of England Showground, on Thursday 7 August from 6pm, there will be a selection of 14 easy drinking beers along with bottles of red and white wine for those with a less refined pallet. Entry is £15 which includes an engraved commemorative glass and your first 4 pints of beers. There after beer is £2.50 a ticket. For those drinking wine, entry will be £18 which includes your glass and first bottle of wine. There after a ticket for a bottle of wine will be £13. A small selection of soft drinks will also be available.

The Frazer Nash Archives was set up by John Aldington, son of H.J. Aldy Aldington, to ensure the safe preservation of the history of the Frazer Nash marque from 1909 when Archie Frazer-Nash and Ron Godfrey constructed the first GN, until 1957 when the last post-war design was produced by AFN. The Archives provides a safe haven for a substantial collection of Frazer Nash related material, including works documents, photographs, letters, competition memorabilia and so on, a lot of which is accessible for enthusiasts conducting research into this famous, competitive marque.

The late motoring journalist, Denis Jenkinson, was instrumental in conducting a huge amount of archival work in sorting and cataloguing a great deal of the material held, a job which is now continued by the small team of Trustees. The Archives is a registered charity and, far from being a dusty collection of records, it is a fascinating and active resource.

The building which houses the Archives was erected about 60 years ago, and to the great concern of the Trustees has recently begun to leak.  An appeal to raise funds for the repair of the roof was started in December 2013. We need to raise at least £15,000 and any profit from the Frazer Nash Beer Festival at the VSCC 80th Anniversary celebration will go towards this.
