Date confirmed for the 2014 Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival – 14/15 June

Thursday 05 December 2013

Brooklands Museum and the Vintage Sports-Car Club have confirmed preliminary details of the Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival for 2014. In true Brooklands tradition, it will be held on the weekend closest to the date the original track opened in 1907, which next year is Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June. The two-day event will feature Speed Trials, ascents, Driving Tests and the prestigious Double Twelve Concours across the Museum site and at the neighbouring Mercedes-Benz World, giving spectators and competitors a huge variety of motoring action.
The structure of the competitions allows entrants to enjoy a full weekend of participation by choosing which elements suit them and their vehicle. Even if a competitor can only make one day, there is still the opportunity to come and compete in any single competition.

The three stand-alone competitive events are:

•           The Double Twelve Speed Trials on the Mercedes-Benz World Circuit on Saturday
•           The Double Twelve Concours held across both days, but mainly on the Saturday
•           The Double Twelve Driving Tests on Sunday

The classes across all three elements take into consideration a broad range of motoring marques, anniversaries and heritage, making this a very inclusive weekend for everyone.  The prestigious Double Twelve Concours will include classes celebrating ‘50 years of the Ford Mustang’, ‘Historic Brooklands Vintage Cars’ and, ahead of the Museum’s own Centenary event on 3 August 2014, ‘the Great War Remembered’, a class open to vehicles of the Veteran and Edwardian eras up to 1918. There will also be a class to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Vintage Sports-Car Club. In the Double Twelve Driving Tests, classes will cater for cars of all type, size and age, including Post-war short and mid-length wheelbase Saloons and Sports-Cars and Pre-war Touring and Sports-Cars.

A full list of classes will be announced shortly along with entry forms to download here on the VSCC website and on the Double Twelve pages of the Brooklands Museum website at www.brooklandsmuseum.com. Entrants will enjoy an inclusive hospitality area in the charming, period splendor of the Edwardian Clubhouse, the chance to drive on motoring ‘hallowed ground’ and when competing, will be in the capable hands of the VSCC and Brooklands marshals.

Each event will have its own class and overall winners, but to qualify for an overall Brooklands Double Twelve award, an entrant must compete in any two of the three events and the combined scores of these will decide their Double Twelve placing.

In addition to the competitive events, the Test Hill Challenge will be running on both days, providing much merriment as it invites practically anything on wheels (or legs) to reach the summit of that most famous peak. The weekend will culminate in the prize-giving ceremony in the main Paddock on the Sunday. For spectators, a day ticket gives access to all areas on both sites, Paddock and grandstand views along with Saturday evening entertainment.

Further preliminary information for the Double Twelve Concours can be obtained from Neil Sinclair at Brooklands Museum at neilsinclair@brooklandsmuseum.com or by calling 01932 857381 ext 244.
