Spectating at VSCC Oulton Park this Saturday?

Thursday 19 May 2016

Following the resounding success of our ‘Spring Start’ season opener at Silverstone last month, we now turn our attention to our Hawthorn Memorial Trophies Meeting at Oulton Park this Saturday 21 May. Once again, there is much more to this meeting than watching over 200 Pre-war and Historic cars battle for the spoils on track over the day’s 11-Race programme….
The VSCC Oulton Park AutoSolo (Outer Paddock, 10.00am-12.00pm)
The VSCC are proud to present our second Oulton Park AutoSolo, after last year’s successful edition, which will feature 20 Pre-war Sports-Cars in action in the Paddock area adjacent to Chequers Restaurant during the morning.

AutoSolos are a comparatively new form of motorsport devised a few years ago by the MSA, originally aimed at youngsters in modern hatchbacks in a campaign to attract new people to enter motorsport. AutoSolos take the form of simple, all-forwards ‘Driving Tests’. Competitors have to tackle a course that involves a series of turns and slaloms made up of cones, with runs timed against the clock. As there is no reversing they have been proven to be very popular with the older driver in an older car too, with less strain on the back axle and creaking necks!

‘Vintage’ Aircraft
Don’t miss the chance to see the stunning Spitfire – on static display all day nearby Chequers Restaurant for you to get up close to take pictures with. There will also be working demonstrations of the mighty Merlin engine that powered her throughout the day.

A thrilling Air Display will also take place during the afternoon, featuring three Vintage aircraft including a Hawker Fury and Nimrod.

Free Paddock Access
All visitors are welcome to explore the Competitor Paddock, with no additional entry fee or pass required. This allows you to get up close to the cars which have been performing on the track and talk to owners who are only too happy to share the history and their knowledge of their machines. This is a truly rare and wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of Historic Racing.

Spectators Pre-war Car Park
As is tradition, the Club has organised a dedicated Car Park for Spectators arriving in Pre-war and Classic cars, situated on the large grassed area next to the Fogarty Moss Centre, overlooking Dentons-Cascades. Here, you can show-off or admire your favourite Pre-war machines. Frequently a highlight of the meeting, it’s worth a visit whether or not you own a Pre-war car. This also where the 20 Pre-war cars taking part in our prestigious Cheshire Life Concours will also be situated so make sure to have a look round this wonderful gathering too.

Trade Village
We welcome an eclectic mix of retailers to our Trade Village, located next to Chequers Restaurant. With everything from cross-ply tyres to car-related gifts, there is something on offer for most tastes.

Where to watch the Racing action
Oulton Park has undoubtedly some of the best viewing for Spectators out of any of the UK Race Circuits.  As you drive down the main drive, the Paddock is to your left.  To the right you can park overlooking Druids and the straight up to Lodge Corner.

There is disabled Parking offering excellent views behind the Fogarty Moss Centre; this is also where the Cheshire Life Concours, Pre-war and Classic Car Parks are situated.  From here you can cross to the outside of the circuit at Clay Hill.  If you drive beyond the Paddock and park on the grass to the left excellent viewing is available covering the corners of Old Hall, Dentons and Cascades.

Those entering via the Knickerbrook entrance will be able to park on the outside of the circuit, with excellent views of the loop, including Shell Oils Corner, Britten’s and Knickerbrook. East Gate entrance will also be open, with viewing at Lodge Corner and Deer Leap.
