Rally Revival – A New Class Structure!
Tuesday 03 July 2018
This year we have been campaigning a Rally Revival to encourage Rallyists of all abilities to enjoy and take part in the VSCC’s Rally calendar.
Part of this initiative has included a change in Classes at our Rally events. The new Classes include a Champagne Class for beginners or novices, a Clubman Class for those who prefer a more relaxing Rally than the Trophy Class, which is ideal for Rally veterans.
We’ve put together a guide to the new Rally Classes below – why not have a go at the Summer Rally which will take place at the prestigious Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit on Saturday 18 August? Running alongside the Sprint at Goodwood after its one year hiatus, the Summer Rally HQ will be based in the Supershell building overlooking the Goodwood track, where Rally competitors will be able to enjoy a Parade lap during the Sprint’s lunch break, time permitting. A beautiful route awaits for you in the fantastic West Sussex countryside. Enter the Summer Rally now.
Champagne Class
This Class is open to ANY Pre-War car (Buff Form not necessary!). Your instructions have been designed to allow complete beginners to get around the route, and will come in the form of a very straight forward ‘Roadbook’ style with simple instructions such as ‘3.7 miles turn left at T junction into Smith Lane signpost Chipping’. All instructions will be accompanied by Tulip diagrams and sections of OS maps. You will also receive timing hints. The winning driver and navigator from this Class will each receive a bottle of Champagne to celebrate their win!
Clubman Class
This Class is also open to any Pre-War cars with or without a Buff Form. Instructions will be given to competitors 30 minutes before their start time and will come in the form of straight forward Rally conventions with map features, sport heights, and Tulip diagrams which competitors will have to plot onto an OS map. You will also receive timing hints. The winning driver and navigator in this Class will each receive a bottle of wine.
Trophy Class
Cars in this Class must have a Buff Form! Instructions will be given to competitors 15 minutes ahead of their start time, and will use rally conventions which appear in the ‘Finding Your Way’ booklet. The overall event winners can come from this Class, with awards and trophies being awarded in the usual way.
