An abridged version of David Pryke's account of the day. 

AutoSOLOs differ from Driving Tests in that there's no stopping or reversing between start and finish, allowing drivers to flow smoothly through each course. Around twenty cars were entered, ranging from Austin Sevens to Ford Model A's. Richard Hammond shared Leslie Kyle's Riley 12/4 Special, drawing a TV crew whose presence caused little disruption. Hammond proved an enthusiastic and skilful competitor, improving steadily through the morning.

Three tests were run twice each, with some notably quick performances from Will Marsh in his Austin Ulster and Matthew Smethurst in his Riley Nine.

AutoSOLOs are a brilliant, accessible entry point into VSCC competition — well worth trying.
