Donington Park 2026
Monday 25 May 2026
A recap of the day via an abridged version of Ian Robertson's account of the day
Having competed in Trials, Race Meetings and Hill Climbs for several years, Donington marks a third attempt — a clutch failure in 2024 and a cancelled meeting last year meaning a first race here remains elusive.
The MG J2 was well prepared, and despite living nearby, the decision was made to camp overnight with fellow MMM competitors — though freight flights from East Midlands Airport ensured a sleepless night.
Race day ran smoothly through scrutineering and briefing, with practice at 11.25 amongst an eclectic mix of machinery. A tannoy announcement summoning "car number 5" to Race Control caused brief alarm — fortunately a case of mistaken identity.
The MMM vs Austin 7 Race proved great fun, spent tussling closely with a fellow MMM competitor throughout. A half-price entry to the Allcomers Scratch Race added a bonus session — just six starters, relaxed and enjoyable, following Richard's Frazer Nash around while Dougal and Patrick disappeared into the distance.
A thoroughly rewarding day overall.
