VSCC Feature at the Castle Combe ‘Autumn Classic’ this Sunday in a Top-Flight Line Up.

Friday 04 October 2013

Pre-war Sports-Cars from the Vintage Sports-Car Club have a headline race at this Sundays (6 October) ‘Castle Combe Autumn Classic Meeting’, supported by Carole Nash Insurance & Bristol Forklifts.
The day follows Castle Combe’s own Grand Finals Day on Saturday. Our race will showcase the Vintage Sports-Car Club at its very best in a twenty minute race and should prove a fitting finale to the Club’s 2013 Racing Season.

No fewer than 26 of our regular Pre-war Sports-Car drivers will take to the fantastic 1.85 mile circuit that the Club rarely gets the chance to visit and the action is sure to be close, as many of the ‘hot shots’ of the year are in action, looking to settle scores and close the season going out ‘on top’. With standings for annual trophies and awards concluding at Snetterton last week, everyone will be racing for the sheer enjoyment factor.

Andrew Mitchell will be the man to watch in his 1937 HRG as the highest placed finisher in last year’s race, just pipping ‘Owlet’, the unusual Frazer Nash Saloon of marque specialist Patrick Blakeney-Edwards.  You might imagine the pretty saloon to be slow thanks to the weight of the body, but it is defyingly quick, and Patrick will be keen to settle the scores with Andrew this time around. Further back, the larger capacity cars of John Guyatt’s Talbot Lago and Jerome Fack’s Brough Superior Alpine will face strong competition from David Ozanne and Keith Piper’s Aston Martins, keen for a strong finish in their marque’s own Centenary year.

Races for Formula Junior, 50s Sports Cars (FISCAR), Historic Aston Martins, ‘Big Healeys’, and Pre-‘66 Jaguars make up the rest of the programme as well as displays and parades and a special VSCC parking area for Pre-war cars.

Times
Parades from 12 noon, Grid Walkabout from 1pm and Racing from 1.30pm.
