VSCC 2013 Season Launched to the General Public on Main Stage at Autosport International

Friday 11 January 2013

Yesterday, on Thursday 10 January, Club Secretary, Mike Stripe and Public Relations Manager, Gillian Carr took to the main stage at Autosport International at Birmingham’s NEC to launch the 2013 VSCC Public Events Season.
Interviewed by Henry Hope-Frost, (Autosport’s Sub-Editor and commentator at Goodwood’s Motorsport events and with the VSCC when he has a free weekend!),  the pair announced details of the expanded Spring Start event at Silverstone in April, which will now see two days of VSCC and Historic Motorsport action on 20-21 April as well as the four other race meetings at Cadwell Park (8 June), Mallory Park (21 July), Pembrey (17/18 August) and Snetterton (29 September).  The Club also has a grid at the Castle Combe Autumn Classic (6 October).
The first Spring hill climb is at Wiscombe Park in Devon on Sunday 12 May followed by Harewood in North Yorkshire on Saturday 1 June (VSCC classes run within a BARC event).  Vauxhall 30-98s celebrate their centenary year in 2013, and they will dominate Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in Worcestershire on Sunday 7 July (VSCC classes run within a MAC event), and the pinnacle of the Club’s competition year, Prescott will be run on the traditional first weekend in August (3-4) at the Gloucestershire venue.  A visit to Loton Park in Shropshire completes the hill climb season on 14-15 September.

The Club is proud to be working alongside the team at Brooklands once more and the Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival is now firmly staking its claim as one of the key motor sport events of the summer.  The Club will hold a Sprint event on the Mercedes-Benz World Handling Circuit on Saturday 15 June alongside the Driving Tests and Concours event that complete the ‘Double Twelve’ weekend in Surrey.  Other Sprints will be held at Curborough, Staffordshire (Sunday 5 May), Pembrey, Carmarthenshire (as part of the Pembrey Race Meeting on the weekend of 17-18 August).  The Sprint season closes with the popular visit to Goodwood on Saturday 26 October.

It was emphasised that  spectators are welcome to attend any of the Club’s Race, Hill Climb and Sprint events.  The VSCC’s 7,500 members can also enjoy a full programme of off-road Trials, Navigational Rallies, Driving Tests, Tours and Pub Meets.  Club events are held nearly every weekend so there is much opportunity to get involved as a spectator, marshal or competitor.
