Derbyshire awaits the VSCC John Harris Trial this weekend
Friday 03 March 2017
Following last weekend’s successful 2017 season opener in Exmoor, the Club’s Trialists head north to the Peak District for the John Harris (Derbyshire) Trial, based once again at the Parish Village Hall in Ashover near Matlock tomorrow, Saturday 4 March.
Another capacity entry of 100 Pre-war cars and crews will take part in this year’s edition, led by Joint Clerks of the Course, Steve Lister and Barry Smith, who take over ‘on the day’ duties from organisers Louise Bunting and Richard Parsons.
Competitors and Marshals can expect another warm welcome at Event Headquarters before setting out for the day’s competition, which will comprise 14 challenging sections including four where Spectators will be most welcome to come and watch the action, starting at 9.00am. Four of the five Class winners from last weekend return to action and will hope to continue their winning ways:
Amongst the Standard cars, Charles Gillett pilots one of two Bugatti Brescias in the Short Wheelbase Class whilst Dennis Bingham will look to go one better than his Runner-Up finish in Exmoor, competing on home territory in the Long Wheelbase Class in his Ford Model A.
Having shared the spoils last week, Paul Jeavons and John Chilman go head-to-head once more in the Modified/Special Long Wheelbase Class in Vauxhall 30-98 and Chrysler 65 respectively and will hope to challenge the leaders of the Short Wheelbase entry for the overall victory. All eyes will be on Exmoor Trial champion, David Golightly, who starts amongst the favourites again in his Ford Model T but will face a stiff competition from a whole host of regular challengers in the ever-competitive line-up.
At the end of the day, all Competitors will gather back at Ashover for the announcement of the day’s results.
And don’t forget...
Entries are still open for all the remaining VSCC Trials for the first half of the year so get your entries in now to ensure you’re in the mix – they’re sure to fill fast!
