VSCC Welsh Speed Weekend, Pembrey, 20/21 August – Entries for Sprint/Race Meeting Closed; AutoSolo Deadline Extended!

Tuesday 09 August 2016

After a year hiatus in 2015, we are delighted to be returning to Pembrey for our Welsh Speed Weekend on 20/21 August, incorporating Sprint, Team Relay Race and Seaman Memorial Trophies Race Meeting, as well as our first Pembrey AutoSolo – a new addition for this year.
The South Wales venue has proved a favourite amongst Competitors, Marshals, Officials and the Club staff; you are assured of a friendly welcome and a lot of interest from the local Marshals and Spectators who relish the visit of our Pre-war and Historic machinery, whilst the circuit itself will undoubtedly prove an enjoyable challenge for drivers.

Our celebrated Welsh Speed Weekend provides Club Members with a full weekend of motorsport action, with Sunday’s headline Seaman Memorial Trophies Meeting incorporating some of the Club’s most prestigious trophies, all on the technical and flowing 1.46 mile circuit. Pembrey Country Park and the award winning beaches are only a short distance away; if you haven’t experienced our Pembrey weekend perhaps this is the Summer you should!

Pembrey Sprint (Saturday)

Our popular Pembrey Sprint  will again be the opening event in the VSCC Welsh Speed Weekend and forms another round of the Club's 2016 Speed Championship – with 'Double Points' on offer in Wales! Competitors will start their runs from the pit lane, taking in Hatchets Hairpin, Spitfires, Esses and Brooklands Hairpin to finish on the Speedway Straight.

There are still a few places available for the event, which incorporates the Club’s full Pre-war Class structure, as well as additional Invited classes for Post-war Historic Racing Cars, including F3 (500) Racing Cars (who also enjoy races in Sunday’s programme – see below) and 1950s Sports Cars.

Entries are now closed for the Sprint; please contact the Competition Department for late entry availability.

Mike Stripe Team Relay Race for Pre-war Sports-Cars (Saturday, PM)

A highlight of the weekend will undoubtedly be the Club’s ever-popular Pre-war Sports-Car Team Relay Race, which will bring Saturday’s track action to a thrilling conclusion and this year renamed in honour of former Club Secretary, Mike Stripe.

The race will last 90 minutes with 3 cars per team, whilst the role of the Team Manager is significant as pit stop tactics, start car selection and stint length strategy are the important decisions that need to be made. And to ensure a real competitive edge, single marque teams are encouraged but by no means mandatory!

If you are interested in taking part but are not affiliated with an existing team, don’t dismay – contact the Competition Department – chances are we can match you to other individual entrants to form additional teams (such line-ups have performed admirably in past editions!) Without a car or race license? We are looking for our Judges for the day too so why not volunteer your services – it’s a great way to get involved and there is nothing quite like the camaraderie in the Pit Lane of the VSCC Team Race.

Entries are now closed for the Team Race; please contact the Competition Department for late entry availability.

Seaman Memorial Trophies Race Meeting (Sunday)

The Seaman Memorial Trophies collection will headline Sunday’s racing programme. Vintage Racing Cars (Set 1) will contest the Vintage Seaman Trophy Race; first raced for in 1950, it remains one of the Club’s oldest and most prestigious racing trophies with some of the most illustrious and revered names of Club folklore amongst its previous winners,

The Historic Seaman and Flockhart Trophies Race will again accommodate our Pre-1961 Racing Cars (Set 2) in another stunning title Pre- and Post-war gathering, with another pair of the Club’s prestigious silverware on offer.

The Redgate Mug Race is sure to attract another full grid of Standard & Modified Pre-war Sports-Cars (Set 3), whilst the Special Pre-war Sports-Cars (set 4) will contest the Donington Mug Race, with both events surely set to see good support with the inclusion of the weekend’s Team Race.

As ever, Pre-war fans will also enjoy full grids competing in the ever-popular All-Comers Pre-war Short Scratch (Set 5) and Handicap (Set 6) formats, whilst we also offer another Novice Short Scratch Race and our annual High Speed Trial, ideal formats for those newer to racing with the VSCC.

We are also honoured to hold the second Garry Whyte Trophy Handicap Race, bringing together Pre-war Rileys of both Racing and Sports-Car guises, in memory of the popular young Club Member, who passed away after an incident at Silverstone in 2014.

We also welcome back our friends at the 500 OA for two races for F3 (500) Racing Cars, always a popular addition to the Paddock, whilst the Welsh Sports and Saloon Cars will again provide an eclectic complement to the day’s proceedings, after entertaining us so well two years ago (the latter to enter directly with the Series organisers).

Entries are now closed for the Race Meeting; please contact the Competition Department for late entry availability.

Pembrey AutoSolo (Sunday, AM) NB Entries to be accepted on the day

Following the success of our AutoSolo events at Silverstone and Oulton Park earlier in the season, our inaugural Pembrey event will again form a support event to Sunday’s Seaman Memorial Trophies racing activity as both another attraction to entertain Spectators and a fantastic opportunity for our non-Racing Club Members to be part of a VSCC Race Meeting.

The event will take place during the morning in Paddock 2, finishing in time for the Lunch Break, allowing participants a free afternoon to watch the race action on the circuit – the entry fee includes two admission tickets for the full weekend – normally £36 in advance or £60 on the gate – in addition to a free Event Programme (£5 value).

An AutoSolo involves an ‘all forward’ Autotest on a sealed surface using numbered markers. As there is no reversing they have been proven to be very popular with the older driver in an older car too. The tests are more straight-forward than traditional Autotests and are, therefore, less of a memory test.

The event is open to road-going Pre-1941 Cars (must run with wings/lights) with the Entry sub-divided into Classes based on age and/or wheelbase.

Advance entries are now closed for the AutoSolo; entries will be accepted on the day (all road-going cars of any age)

If you have any questions about our Welsh Speed Weekend, please contact the Competition Department on 01608 644777 (ext 4, 5 or 6) or email comps@vscc.co.uk.

The track action will get underway at 9.00am each day.
