BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Iain Muir
Since boyhood I have had a fascination with building and repairing mechanical things. At the age of 14 I replaced the cylinder head gasket on the family car. Gifts at birthdays and Christmas were frequently tools of some description. I had a 1961 VW beetle for 7 years whilst at school and university and there were very few parts of it which I did not rebuild at some stage. I qualified as a doctor in 1977 and embarked on a career in general surgery finally working as a consultant in vascular and endocrine surgery in Dumfries.
I have 3 interesting cars. An XK120 which I bought in 1989 as a basket case and restored to “as new”, an Aston DB2/4 in which I began motorsport in the AMOC Speed Series and a 1929 Riley Brooklands replica. The latter was built by the late, beloved Allen Clear and is the reason I joined the VSCC. I have been a member since 2014 and began competing in the Speed Series the following year. The Riley won the championship in 2023 driven by Tim Stamper and I was 1st in Class 8 in 2024. I greatly appreciate the friendships that have developed with scores of fellow members during that time . I attended the 90th Anniversary celebrations at Stratford for and enjoyed my first experiences of club rallying and touring. I have been a marshal or hill chief at the Lakeland and Scottish Trial for several years. I am a regular participant in our local VSCC group and for the past few years have recruited a team of marshals for the trials mentioned.
